SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

Won't work on the Kenevo SL (unless there is a new one coming out with the UDH). Should work (as I understand it) on most bikes that have the UDH so that is the thing to check. The biggest problem is the cassette being moved out 2.5mm, the UDH arrangement has space available to allow this shift...

SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

Thanks for posting that. Still don't understand why they moved the cassette out 2.5mm, the 13 speed theory is the only logical explanation I've heard but surely no-one really wants that? Maybe for XC I suppose to have closer gaps, but if they are doing the 2, 4, 6 and 8 tooth jumps so they can...

SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

Thanks. So presumably there is more spoke clearance, so if/when the chain finds it's way between the cassette and the spokes it is going to get even more jammed? Does anyone know WHY they have done this? If they had left it where it was then the UDH "standard" might not be on revision H and...

SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

So did they MOVE the cassette out 2.5mm or is the big gear in the same place and it is 2.5mm wider? If so pitch is going to be bigger and cable derailleurs are going to need a pull modifier to work.

    Can't they just call them 1, 2 & 3 or something?!

SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

What? There is no "end cap" on an XD driver? And if there was it would rotate with the cassette so how could it be "against the derailleur body"? Do you mean that the hub axle collar is against the part of the derailleur that acts as the dropout (and replaces the UDH)? That makes sense but the...

SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

Yes, this is the main concern. I don't really understand where this extra 2.5mm is coming from. As far as I remember, the original UDH specs didn't stipulate extra clearance around the area. And does this mean that the sprocket pitch is wider, so the whole cassette is wider, or is there just...

SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

Probably. Axs did, probably be at least a year though. What I want to know (as the owner of a non UDH bike) is if you can use the more durable cassette and chain with old fashioned cable actuated eagle derailleurs.

SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

SRAM moved the whole cassette over a few mm closer to the dropout so the chain line is 55mm. This gives more tyre clearance which is cool, but I do worry that some frames will foul the chain in the smallest sprocket as a result.

SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

But if the upper knuckle of the new mech is less than $100 then potentially it's a wash? As I said, the UDH "dropout" is a lot stronger than most pre-UDH dropouts so we reduce the risk of damage to an even more expensive part to replace. So UDH dropout beats non-UDH dropout. And then we are...

    Does anything pass this test?

SRAM's new 2023 Drivetrain allows full power shifts

I like the look of this and the concept of letting the mech move backward on impact seems fine. If you hit a rock at 20mph something is going to break on any system but probably better to have a rebuildable mech than a flimsy hanger to replace AND a non-rebuildable mech AND a frame with a...
