    Unanswered Rotor change

You want a massive upgrade then get bigger rotors and spacers for your brake callipers. 180mm rotors is small on an eMTB. Anything else is just a subtle change. Gordon

Unanswered Lapierre ezesty build project help

Did Fazua say why they will not support? I did a frame replacement under warranty but I returned the frame to the local distributor. But that does mean I've built a bike from scratch. The Fazua parts you require are: Bottom Bracket Unit Drive Pack Battery Locking Mechanism (possibly spacers...

    Unanswered Fitting accessories

My OneUp pump has a holder that allows for a large range of adjustment for tube width. No issue on any of my eBikes. Plus a Fidlock mount to make water bottle access a bit easier. Gordon

Unanswered Solution for a shorter leg

Simplest solution is a spacer on the bottom of your shoe. All you'd need is longer bolts to go though the cleat/spacer and into the shoe. Maybe combined with a 155 crank to keep the spacer a reasonable thickness. Do some trials to make sure you can clip out. Gordon

    Unanswered Replacing a brake caliper

Any Shimano straight mount hose type will be directly swappable. Basically Deore and below. Look for a 6120 or similar. SLX and above will require a hose change but you can use the same levers. Gordon

Unanswered How worn is this cassette?

It's just a bit of common sense. I have one of the portable Karcher units and it's great. I also have unusually high water pressure at home. Enough that I could easily get water into a bearing or behind a seal, which is bad. I'm just careful that I don't spray at full force into a bearing or...

Not on modern mountain bikes, no. Gordon

Unanswered Would a Shimano chain be better?

My bikes also came with KMC chains. When replacing them I put on a HG chain. I do notice a small improvement in shifting but mostly less noise. I find the KMC chains make a clunky sound when shifting whereas the HG chains are quieter. And yes, they're set up properly. Gordon

Unanswered Clunk when taking up drive

Highly unlikely that firmware will change much. The last few updates have basically just added logging to try and prevent derestriction. Some play is normal, and if your hub also has some they'll add together to do what you're feeling. It *could* be a loose chainring or worn faulty freehub but...

Unanswered Clunk when taking up drive

Check the chainring and cassette have no unwanted free play. That would be bad. If not, most likely it's the engagement of the freehub on the rear wheel having a longer throw before it engages. There's also a small engagement delay in the e8000 but it's not huge and not noisey. Also some bikes...

    Unanswered Braking technique

Heels down. Weight back. That's what I'm thinking when braking hard. I suspect my weight is through my feet (but not all of it) to keep it low into the bike. If you push your weight into your hands you just make a nice high pivot point to help you fly over the bars. Gordon

Answered Full face helmet for an older fella!

Been riding with the Bell Super Air R for six months or so. Started with guard off but mostly leave it on now. Best helmet I've owned with all the safety bells and whistles. Plus it's well ventilated, light and comfortable. No it's not a full DH helmet. And I don't want it to be. Because I...

Answered Forks - things to consider on replacement?

Merida's come with a 51mm offset. You can easily fit a 44mm offset if you want. I have. Trail will change. It'll be *slightly* more stable at high speed and slightly less at low speed. I got used to it after 2 rides. You're current wheel has a *Maxel* so you're stuck with a Rockshox unless you...

Answered Shimano display on 35mm bars

Try the zip tie first. The clamp is really flexible and you can leave the display in the correct spot if you use a very thin zip (cable) tie. It's just like using a very very long bolt, but a flexible one. Trim the end to make it neat. Gordon

Extremely pleased with my Ergon EMTB saddle. Comfortable for all day rides. Probably the only *E* specific part that is actually worth putting on an EMTB. Gordon

    Answered discharging shimano e8000 battery.

2 months at full charge isn't a great idea. Not good for battery health. But you really need to ride it before you can tell if range has dropped. The estimates on the bike are pretty poor and I don't personally trust the data shown by STUnlocker (not sure how it's reported to the app from the...

    Answered discharging shimano e8000 battery.

Where did you get those figures? Did you notice any change in range? I have 3 external 504wH Shimano batteries. All show different "health" levels in STUnlocker. Between 85% and 97%. When my first battery quicly hit 90% after about a month I though WTF!. But in reality it hasn't actually showed...
