    Forbidden Druid - Avinox Powered

It's basically like a nut and bolt - so hold one side (vice, spanner etc) and undo the other side (socket, spanner etc)

    Forbidden Druid - Avinox Powered

Is this really the issue though? If you put a thin shim washer (0.6mm) between the bolt and the idler, and torque it down correctly, the idler now spins perfectly freely. That's putting exactly the same lateral force on the inner race as before, but the problem goes away. On the backside of...

    Forbidden Druid - Avinox Powered

Can you explain how lateral loading on the inner race would cause the bearing to drag. Isn't the inner race the one that's supposed to have the bolt torqued up against it?

    Chainring for Shimano EP8

The Shimano chainring actually consists of a hub, and the chainring itself - I've already got the hub bit, I just need a chainring to go on it. So actually, me mentioning the "50mm chainline" is a bit irrelevant as that is handled by the hub. All I need is the outer part of the chainring as per...

    Chainring for Shimano EP8

It's definitely a genuine 36T - here's a snip below from my mtbdirect.com.au order history. But that's not a Shimano motor - am I missing the relevance? And I was hoping you'd be able to tell me what chainrings come with a 50mm chainline.

    Chainring for Shimano EP8

My 2022 Marin Alpine Trail E2 with the Shimano EP8 motor needs a new chainring, but I can't seem to find one in stock. The correct one is apparently a Steps SM-CRE80 eBike Chainring with 104bcd and 50mm chainline. Can you confirm that I'm looking for the correct part for this bike and motor, and...

    R.I.P. Greg

How do we know Greg isn't just making stuff up when he gives us answers? I asked ChatGPT to give me the geometry changes after increasing my fork travel and it gave me all the new figures, including a steeper head angle. When I pointed out the error, it apologised and threw some different...

How to measure coil shock usage

That's OK for setting sag, but they're often not as tight as the fork o-ring and will work it's way to the bottom of the shock shaft during a ride. A Sprindex Yo-yo is a pretty neat way of measuring - just not sure if they sell them separately (I got them to send me one when I bought one of...

Carbon frame broken - refused warranty

That seems to read that if it's up to 3 years old, it will be warrantied regardless of the "service history" So how old is the bike?

My thoughts on Bosch SX Motor

What were your thoughts on the Merida - I'm interested in one but wasn't sure about the lower power motor (currently riding an EP8), but sounds like it might be OK. But the bike itself?

    Marin Alpine Trail E1/2 thread

They're sealed - although you can always remove the seal with a pick, clean and regrease .But whilst the bearings might need replacing, I often have to remove the fork and re-grease everything - the bearings are fine, but there's lots of interfaces in there which can dry up and cause creaks.

    Marin Alpine Trail E1/2 thread

Out of interest, what extractor and press kit did you go for - I had a look but couldn't work out what I needed, so was just going to use the stud / washer / socket ghetto version. And I'll be interested to hear how you go with getting those bearings out.

    Marin Alpine Trail E1/2 thread

Has anyone tried changing the rocker bearings? I'm not quite sure how to get the bearing out as there's a plastic / cheap metal spacer on the 'blind' side (outside) of the bearing. I'd use a blind bearing puller, but the other side of the rocker is in the way as the bearings need to come out in...

Anyone found it harder to pedal a mullet Rise?

So offset bushings with the standard shock wouldn't have the same effect? Does anyone make / sell these?

Anyone found it harder to pedal a mullet Rise?

What changes are needed if I want to convert my Rise to a mullet, but keep the geometry (HA, BB height etc) exactly as it is with the 29 rear? Every thread, video etc I can find seems to involve upgrading shocks, forks etc to get more travel as well, rather than JUST mulleting the bike.

Do's and Don'ts for e-bike battery care. What do you do to keep your battery performing at its best?

I'd store my battery at 50% if it was easier - but having to manually work out when it might reach that point, then make sure you're around to unplug it, is a bit of a pain. Wouldn't it make sense if battery chargers came with a 2 position switch - 1) Charge to 50% and 2) Charge to 100% That...

Mine didn't come with Cushcore, no. I put one in the back wheel for a while, but moved to thicker sidewall tyres instead.

Any thoughts on the new version - First Look: The 2025 Marin Alpine Trail E Has a Bosch Motor & More Adjustability - Pinkbike I weighed my large E2 yesterday, running 29" wheels front and rear running Maxxix DD tyres. Came in at 25.8kg. Claimed weight of the new one (admittedly with cushcore...

    Marin Alpine Trail E1/2 thread

I'm riding a large frame. The bottom of the water bottle was just catching the top of the shock so would probably wear through eventually. So I just taped a spacer to the bottom of the bottle cage - the bottle now sits a couple of mm higher and clears the shock OK.

Best way to transport E bikes without lifting

I also prefer a van to transport my bike, but some friends have got the Shingleback vertical bike rack which makes loading pretty simple, as long as you can get the bike onto it's back wheel - see at about the 4:30 mark in this video -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9Hp_Vtj1Y4
