A Crazy Situation (In Need of Advice)

I don't know the details for Canada, but ultimately I imagine any sales tax goes to the government - UPS are just the intermediary taking payment on the government's behalf. In the UK that customs charge has to be paid before the item is released from the customs clearance centre (i.e. port...

Buying from ridewill.it (Italy). Anyone on here used them?

I couldn’t find those cranks in 160mm the UK, so ended up ordering them from bike-discount.de. They cost me £75 plus an extra £15 VAT and £12 Royal Mail handling charge when they got to the UK. I had to get up to a minimum order value too, so I ended up ordering some 5.10s £60 ex VAT which...

    Waterproofing your ass?

That's great info, many thanks. Now I want to fit it even less! For anyone else considering one of these, I just messaged MudHugger and they said the helitape can be installed in the same wet way as frame wrap as long as the room (and bike presumably) is warm to keep the tape pliable. Their...

    Waterproofing your ass?

I've just picked up the V2 mudhugger which now has velcro straps and a bit that covers the area from the seatstays to the chainstays. I can't quite bring myself to fit it though, I've just invisiframed the seat stays and I don't want to double wrap a load more helitape over it and spoil my...

    Orbea Rise sizing

For anyone who hasn't seen it there's an interesting article on PB: What Geometry Numbers Do the Top Enduro Racers Actually Prefer? . The takeaway from that is that the 6' riders generally prefer a reach or around 475mm. There's a good discussion on RAD in the comments that starts around...

New SC-EN600 display compatible with EP8?

I think I'm right in saying that EP8 is the model range, and then there are now two versions; the older EP800 (e.g. as found on MY 2022 and earlier bikes) and the newer EP801 that's just been released. So "EP8 801" in that screen grab is probably referring to the new motor only.

    Rise – rear mudguard

@Buggbairn did you get a chance to try that combo out, did it work? I was pondering whether a Mk2 MudHugger would work well on the Rise, but the lower protection looks a bit underwhelming: https://www.themudhugger.co.uk/products/mk2-rear-mudhugger-large?variant=43328843186350

Thanks - that was not the news I was hoping for!

Out of interest which type of post is that and what size frame?

    New 2023 Rise..

If you're looking at the US site, I don't think they've updated the pages for the M20 and M-Team yet, they are still showing the 2022 models (they both still have power buttons on the seat tubes).

    New 2023 Rise..

I agree, phew! I also made a Black Friday purchase of a 2022 MY Rise and am breathing a bit sigh of relief right now! If they'd slackened it out it might have been a bit upset! On balance, I'll gladly take the £2.5k cost saving over the 400g weight saving (although I'd love it if you could...

Comment by 'Wooders' in article '6 lightweight emtbs tested and compared!'

Tyres are so terrain specific it seems a shame to have gone to the effort of comparing all these bikes but then not to have used a set of control tyres that were well matched to the test area. That would have allowed the comparison of descending and climbing performance to focus more on the...

new lightweight ebike from transition - the relay

I was thinking about waiting for the Relay before buying my first ebike - I'd been dreaming of something like a Kenovo SL but with a bit more motor. Then I looked at the price of a Repeater and that killed that idea! All the mid-power bikes seem to be more expensive than the full power...

Orbea Rise Large maximum insertion (bought a 240mm dropper)

Looking at the Rise's max insertion table... And then looking at the One Up page for the v2.1 (below), the 210mm version should fit fully in the seat tube on a large, and the 240mm should fit fully in an XL frame. Of course, you'll actually need legs long enough for whichever post you...

Very belatedly, the max. insertion depths are on page 41 of the Blue Paper manual:

    Black Friday 2023 Deals Thread

Start Fitness already had some big discounts on eMTBs, but their SAVE10 Black Friday code now also applies to ebikes (just for today and tomorrow). The £7.5k RRP Orbea Rise M10 I've been eyeing was £5995 yesterday. Today it was £5395... that was enough for me to pull the trigger! Got the...

Fuel EXe Official Trek Fuel EXe Megathread!

Thanks for posting this. I've watched so many EXe videos already that YouTube actually put that video into my feed and I was coming here to post a link to it! It's definitely giving me pause for thought, but I'm also not good at following the "don't buy version 1 of anything rule"! :D Kudos...

Fuel EXe so who's ordered the Trek Fuel EXe?

That's my thinking too, although I'll be really interested to hear how an EXe with the Lyrik set to 160mm rides too. The Transition Relay is good on paper too.

Kenevo SL Kenevo SL for self-shuttling?

That's really helpful and marries up with my thinking: I've been doing the Ryan Leech coaching stuff for a year and plan to carry on with that indefinitely. I'm figuring most of that (manuals, jumping, trials skills etc.) is going to be a lot easier to learn on my short travel trail bike than...

Kenevo SL Kenevo SL for self-shuttling?

That’s exactly it. Ultimately I want to maximise my time spent working on downhill and trail skills to take back to my normal MTB, rather than trying to max out the number of laps but learn less transferable skills.
