hey dutchman, Thanks for the review, how easy was the installation? did you need new hardware to install (spacers and bushes)

    Dreded speed sensor issue.

thats not the speed sensor fault, your ride controller has water ingress, it may sort its self out when it drys out, but will probably shit itself again if it gets damp.

    Won't turn off

Dam that f... I guess you can try to dry the controller/connectors out. but my experience with electrical products is that that it is only a short term fix, with any metal connections eventually rusting, causing failure of the IC's. linked with a giant owner group on FB, mainly based out of...

    Trance E Freehub issues

apart from the hub issue, and the one minor glitch with the ride control, its been a super strong bike. It kills it on the chunky native stuff i ride around my neck of the woods. Also hits drops and jumps pretty well

Sorry Stu, i live in NZ. It maybe just moisture in the connection plugs, spray from the wheels gets in behind the battery covers, and may get in to the little push on connectors for the control panel. You could try pulling the connectors apart and giving the a spray with WD40, then maybe a bit...

I contacted Giant today, and they have agreed to replace the hub with a DT350s. So now its waiting for the hub to arrive, and wheel to be rebuilt. I also brought a Halo vortex rear wheel as a back up, but wont see that for a few days. So not sure which one i will run first up, think will keep...

    Trance E Freehub issues

i saw the bits of broken pawls and metal slivers from my first hub, that was more than just a grease issue. It still seems to be a matter of when, not if the hubs will fail. They have been offering people with a dt350S hub upgrade apparently, so obvious there is still an issue there with their...

Answered Am I too heavy for an ebike?

i second that recommendation about upgrading the wheel set. get a set with a decent and strong freehub, and you wont have any issues. I am 136 kegs, and i jump and do some 1m + drops on my giant e-trance no worries, pump the shocks up to the max and get out there.

Unanswered NEWMAN E bike specific wheels any good?

Anybody running these Newmen - EVOLUTION E.30 - Wheels - E-MTB Seem to have very good reviews on pinkbike and other sites, and reasonable pricing at bikediscount.de' Are they worth a try over the DT Swiss H1700?

    Trance E Freehub issues

The freehub internals were not strong enough to deal with the extra torque of the motor. Giant claims that the hubs are built by DT Swiss, but i believe they must be built at a price point. With yours, it may have just been a replacement of the pawls, which would be a simple strip down and re...

i was one of the first people to get one of the in NZ, had it on order months before it was released here. So the first hub failed after 5 weeks, waited almost 4 weeks (happened over the christmas break) for the parts to arrive from Taiwan, rebuilt the internals, then this failed 3 days later...

Well i have busted my third hub now. Got 6 months out of the third hub, so better than the first 2. This time i will demand an aftermarket replacement, as i now definitely have no faith in the giant hubs. rims are great, wheels are still as straight as the day i brought it. back to the LBS to...

The H1700 wheels seem to be a great option at a good price point. i am sure you wont have any issues with them. Let us know how you get on

Yeah it was another giant hub, but so far feels pretty strong. I had broken the teeth of 2 of the pawls, with the loose parts causing the ratchet to strip out when it was rattling around. I believe that i broke the first pawl 2 weeks before, when i heard a big clunk on a short climb, cranks spun...

I had broken pawls and stripped ratchet gears on the first one, and the second one failed due to damage from the first one, that because they didnt replace the whole hub body only the internals, but had damaged the ratchet ring re fitting the new one

Hey Dutchman, we all enjoy a good tinker with our own bikes, i learnt awhile back to swallow me pride and get on a first name basis with the LBS. Had to have the front brakes re bleed after an attempt to free up the pistons a bit, $40 later and now have a front break that feels fantastic. Been...

Giant E+1 pro free hub issue. No more well done Giant!!

depends on which hub you buy, if its a straight pull hub then no. but most hubs out there have 2 styles so you should find what your after. seems a lot of people are going for the hope hubs

It wont have much effect, but may affect the slack in the chain on the smaller chain ring. As you will need a longer chain if you run the 12 speed with a 2x system (big cog). I would probably drop back to the 10/11 speed cassette if going 2x

You could always go to a 38-40 tooth front ring, help use a bit more of the cassette range, but i guess that it would make your off-road riding a bit more challenging when tackling the steep stuff
