You are correct, i confuddled radius with diameter. The ring sits 4mm lower.

Don’t know in the diameter difference on steel vs alloy….. the steel ring is 4mm thick, I have a 36t alloy and it has a 5mm spine at its widest but the steel is really hard, obviously.

For other who read this….. the above poster is a know all-know f all troll with an opinion. Despite repeated requests for material fail calculations I have received nothing. The shop I used did the engineering calculations and do work for aerospace industry. It’s sound.

Been out twice, working as it should. it sits 2mm lower than a 36, so not worth worrying about, the chain line is +2mm. No noises or gear change drama. I’ll see how it goes.

Went to cnc machine shop and got 1mm milled out of the Amflow spider and SRAM 38t steel chainring. Also added a spacer to recenter the chain guide. It’s perfect.

Well now…. I assumed a force at BCD of 200NM and used force formulae to calculate 1.7mm. This reduces the bending strength by 71% but it’s the sheer force in this application that matters, this force reduces by 34%. I don’t really have time for no nothings with opinions, show me the calculations...

I bought a 2nd amflow spider. I’m popping down to a local engineering shop and getting 1.7 mm of material removed from the spider arms to increase the distance from the suspension arm.

To remove the amflow lock ring to charge the chainring is it left/loose, right/tight or reverse thread like the bosch?

That is correct 36t is the biggest without scratching the rear frame. You use a miranda spider with chainring bolts and 1mm spaces to increase the chainline. It moves the ring 1-2mm further from the frame allowing you to fit 38t.

You don’t need a steel one. An aluminium ring is good for about 400nm. I have a x sync on my trek rail with no issues.

I am running a 38t chainring on trek rail with spider and 1mm spacers, can you put a 36t or 38t on the Amflow. Also, I read the Amflow knows what gear is in, If I change the ring does it screw that up?
