Nice write up as usual Rod. I’m ina similar boat to you, I carry a load of kit, most of which I never use for myself, but I get a kick out of fixing other’s bikes. I get a chance to look smug while they thank me, the mug, for carrying all the kit.
Since buying the Rise, I’ve added-

My mate had this on his ally Rise a couple of weeks back.
I think he’s now put some helli tape over it. I know it’ll look crap, but maybe cut the nipple off a suction cup and use the cup.

I forgot I wrote this thread, there is another thread where I show what I did with the controller, but here are a couple of pics.
Santa Cruz DI2 bars, pre drilled holes, one near the stem and another under the grip that has a channel moulded into the bars under the grip.
Controller is in the end...
Hi Funks,
could you just clarify which spiders are which in your pics?
In the first lot you put up where the ring sits perfectly against the spider tabs, is that a Shimano spider or the FSA? And then what brand ring is it? Raceface?
The last lot of pics that you put up where the spider tabs...
I got this one in a 53 chainline. Paired up with a Wolftooth chainring and bolts, dropstop specific (they do dropstop for SRAM and different profile for shimano) to the latest Shimano chains.
It’s totally transformed the bike into something amazing, or more like a machine that hopefully the...
With the ring/spider having 4 bolts, that’s where it gets thicker compared to a direct mount chainring. There are 2 options for the Wolftooth ring, Drop stop ST is required for the newer Shimano Hyperglide + chains
I’m running a Shimano spider with a Wolftooth 32 ring. I can’t use the chain guide, but that’s not caused any drops. Can also get to the motor bolts easier.
No, I haven’t messed with any firmware. It’s only on rare fast, flat XC rides that I wouldn’t mind a bit more MPH before assist cuts out.
The stuff I’m using the Rise for is generally up or down.
A small update to this as I’ve done a about 10-15 fairly rowdy rides on the Rise now. I noticed before today’s ride that the front offset bushing had indeed spun around. So basically the offset was towards the shock where they’re designed to be.
It wasn’t slack, it needed the bushing tool to...
Push something to wedge between the back of seat tube and tyre, I use a packed out toilet bag. Helps stop the frame collapsing and much easier to put the shock back in.
Thanks for that insight Rod. What amazed me in the YouTube link, was how he could dilute the lithium grease so easily in his palm.
I haven’t tried that with the Mobil XP222 I use, but will this week.
It’s a real shame that Orbea didn’t employ bearing shields a la Santa Cruz. They’re certainly...
Hi Rod,
Am I right in thinking it’s the Chemsearch lube that they reckon is the best stuff in the YouTube link?
It doesn’t seem readily available in the US never mind the UK, so I reckon I’ll give the Synforce a go. I’ll have to get this delivered to a hotel when I come to the States in a...
I always like to tear a new bike down and check everything is greased, loctited and torqued as per spec. I didn’t get chance on my Rise, had too many rides booked. I got chance to do it all today.
I’ll start off by saying I’m not a jet wash user, just a hosepipe and soft brush.
I’m about 8...
We set off to ride the ClimachX trail bear Dyfi on Friday. Not 10 mins in my mates Nukeproof with an EP8 threw up an error. We couldn't sort it from the app, we cleaned it that night and it’s still dead. Poor guy hasn’t even done 10 rides on it.
All sorted👍. Signal is fine, but whereas I would lose it around 15 metres away before, I now lose it at about 9 metres. Not really a biggie, I’m gonna have to be pretty near the bike to ride it😁.
Quite a bit of money just to get rid of 3 rubber rings on the bars and the EN100 out of sight, but...
Okay folks, I’ve done an experiment with stashing the EN100 within the handlebars.
I put a 120cm SD50 cable into the connector that’s in the headtube and have routed it through a drilled hole in the end of an old grip. The En100 is just small enough to go in the handlebars and it’s snug enough...
Excellent, cheers Rod, I’ll have another dabble on Wednesday night by which time I’ll have a longer SD50 cable aswell.
Current plan is to grab some old grips, drill a small hole in the end, enough to get the cable through, stuff the EN100 inside the bars and see if the BLE signal gets through...
