    Lake District Becomes Effortless!

Nice videos. Could I suggest that you replace the muzak with 4'33" by John Cage or just the crunch of tyres on ground?

Shimano Battery Issue (refused warranty claim) where do i stand?

I have exactly the same problem with my Shimano 360 Wh battery on my Rise and have been caught out a couple of times. As the the battery range is as expected I assume it is just poor range reporting.

Should I be using "E-Bike Specific" chain lubes in 2023? Or waste of money?

I've tried everything except wax over the years. Worst by far - silicone (clogs your chain and hard to remove). Harmless but mostly useless - wet/dry lube (clogs/washes off too easily respectively). Best overall on a cleaned chain dried with a water dispersant - 3 in 1 Oil.

I'm starting to regret getting my Orbea Rise...

You are correct. I was having a brainfail, possibly. I'm already in lowest gear whenever I get off the bike to use walk assist, so hadn't tried it in higher gears.

I'm starting to regret getting my Orbea Rise...

I'd like to add that Orbea and Shimano have been absolutely excellent at providing fixes to most of these problems and that overall I'm very happy with the bike. Swapping the 170mm cranks for 155mm Mirandas has dealt with the low BB. Pedal strikes are now much less frequent. As the speed sensor...

I'm starting to regret getting my Orbea Rise...

You have my sympathy. My wife's 2021 M20 is currently in for a motor replacement due to a failed speed sensor. We are thankful that the fault has occurred a few months prior to end of the warranty period. Apart from that there have been several annoying niggles due to the bike's heath robinson...

I fixed the Ep8 motor rattle

The package I received contained just the cranks with pinch bolts and the end caps. That's all that is needed. For installation of the Miranda cranks, you'll need a 5mm hex for the pinch bolts and a 10mm hex for the pre-load caps. If the crank is aligned correctly it should be easy to push the...

I fixed the Ep8 motor rattle

What's really weird about this is that I found it very difficult to reproduce the rattle until i replaced the original 170mm cranks with shorter 155mm Miranda cranks to reduce pedal strikes. The rattle is now much more obvious and is slightly annoying. Incidentally, Miranda do not supply the...

    Shimano EP8 Cranks

I've just ordered the 155 mm Miranda cranks. They approximately the same price as the XTs when the higher postage costs from Portugal to the UK are taken into account.

    Shimano EP8 Cranks

Thanks Lee that's very useful. I'll take a look at the Mirandas

    Shimano EP8 Cranks

I completely agree with you. The problem with the Rise M20 is that the BB height is excessively low, possibly because it has a 140mm fork - most bikes in the M range have 150mm forks. The bike therefore becomes unrideable because you only have to lean the bike over slightly when pedalling to...

    Shimano EP8 Cranks

Thanks for that suggestion - I hadn't realised that was possible.

    Shimano EP8 Cranks

Unfortunately the Rise doesn't have a flip chip. Miranda and Hope make EP8 compatible cranks but I can't find anything less than 165mm. I don't think that the extra 5mm clearance would be sufficient. Thanks for your suggestions.

    Shimano EP8 Cranks

I'm having real problems with pedal strikes due to the extremely low Orbea Rise BB height. As a result I've pumped up the rear shock hard and even tried turning it off but still struggle with strikes. This isn't a problem I've had to this extent when riding previous bikes. I want to replace the...

    Orbea Rise Door Seal washer

Can anyone suggest a suitable charging door seal washer? I've seen similar washer seals used elsewhere but can't remember where. As these washers are held on only by friction, they tend to fall off when riding with the battery extender fitted. What a pity Orbea didn't think to add a few spares...

    SRAM Vs Shimano

After two clutch failures due to water ingress in recent years, I prefer Sram derailleurs to Shimano. Sram's simple lockout mechanism is far superior to Shimano's over engineered and flimsy solution.

EP8 walk assist speed - possible to adjust?

That's OK on smooth ground but on the usual steep loose climbs round here the rear wheel spins away. This is very limiting in this part of the country as it makes walk assist pretty useless. 2.8mph is just too fast on steep ground unless you're an athlete which I'm not. Out of desperation I've...

    Bosch or Shimano motor

Back in 2017 I bought a Trek Powerfly. The CX motor failed due to water ingress and was replaced under warranty by Bosch. A few months later, Bosch replaced the second motor for the same reason. The second motor also failed and Bosch offered a compromise - a further replacement motor for which I...

    Let’s talk crank arm lengths…

I come from the Trek Stache, a hardtale with a very high BB height. The Stache is undoubtedly the best and easiest to ride mtb I've owned thanks to its excellent ground clearance. Now I have an Orbea Rise and am in pedal strike hell. Some trails such as those at Mabie and Ae, which are very...

I fixed the Ep8 motor rattle

The rattle seems to afflict some bikes and not others. Our two Orbea Rise bikes haven't had this problem but we do get a good rattling through frequent pedal strikes thanks to the ridiculously low BB height.
