To all who ride at Sherwood Pines from time to time.

The Red, Blue and Green trails have all mostly dried out and are running well. Because they are maintained by the Forestry Commission, the numerous and widespread fallen trees have all been cleared. The numerous off-piste trails are also dry and running well, but are still troubled by some...

    Mysterious noise, unusual cure.

First ride out on trails since early November (chest infection). Within minutes I was getting a metallic tapping noise from the front. The faster I went and the rougher it got, the faster and louder the noise. I checked the headset adjustment, all good. I checked the front wheel axle for...

    Where did this come from?

I was working on my bike today and spotted this small label on the floor underneath it. It wasn't there when I put the bike away. Maybe it fell off my bike? Bugger, I'm out of warranty too.

    What are these?

I found these on my lawn. They were where I normally wash my bike, so I'm assuming that the spores may have been washed off and into the grass. They are quite small mushrooms; the picture is 4" square (100mm x 100mm). Anyone know what sort they are? And of course, are they edible?

    Long wait at bike shops?

On Mon 18th Sep'23, I rang Rutland Cycles in Whitwell to ask if they could do a job on my emtb. The workshop guy I spoke to said yes they could but the earliest date he could book me in was 26th Oct'23. Five and a half weeks! I mentioned this to Jack at Newark Cycles today and he told me...

Merida eOne-Sixty, wires in the headtube mangled

Yesterday, the power suddenly cut off. I switched it back on and it went off again. Long story short, as long as I rode in a straight line, no problem. But as soon as the bars were moved, the display went dead and the motor cut out. I checked the connections to the display, but all good there. I...

DPD lost my fork and shock!

My LBS (Newark Cycles) sent off my Fox 38 Elite fork and my Fox DPX2 Elite to TF Tuned for a booked-in service. The fork was fine, but the black stanchion on the shock was replaced under warranty. TFT despatched the two items in one package by DPD. DPD notified my LBS that the package was...

Short notice ride at Sherwood Pines Sat 24th June?

Yep, short notice I know. But I'm off to Pines for another test ride of a new route I'm working on. Is anyone going anyway and would like to link up? I will be doing a guided ride quite soon anyway. Thinking of starting at about 11am, but I can change that if required.

Should have stayed in bed today

Another rocker from the locker. This is dated 2011, from a mate, still funny. Today didn't start well and just got worse Stayed at girlfriends flat last night, overlaid so jumped out of bed still half asleep and kicked the castor on the bedside table, removing the nail from my little toe and...

    Following women

This is a post I made back in 2014 on a new defunct mtb website. It's not about bikes, but biking. I came across it today whilst looking for something else, thought it might be of interest to some. Would you initiate contact with a woman riding alone when there is nobody else around. Or are...

New Trail at Sherwood Pines, UK - really tough

I was at Pines yesterday with a mate new to the area and as usual crossed over the railway line next to the Blue Trail and into the National Coal Board area. Press on through that, cross the tarmac road and it starts to get a lot more rugged. I went a different way to usual and came across a...

To all you deep cold weather guys

I have seen some deep snow scenes on "Pic of the Day" and read about temperatures of -15 (it's never clear with the Yanks and Canucs whether they mean degF or degC, but either way it's still 'effin cold!). I'm sure that one Finnish guy posted of riding in -30degC!!!! Now that IS cold. It...

    Who's got the biggest ruts?

What is the biggest rut that you have come across whilst riding? It can be wet or dry, as long as it is on the trail. Here's a couple of mine: Kona Kula hardtail on the Viking Way, near Grantham. Those are 26" wheels, so the rut is only about 20" deep, dry though. :) This is also on the...

Possible Bike Park near Belvoir Castle, Nottinghamshire, UK

Possible bike park near Belvoir Castle! Yes, we all know that Nottinghamshire is flat, don't we? It is in general, but there are some bits that stick up. Belvoir Castle is sat on the top of one of them and in fact is visible for miles around. There is a massive escarpment there that all the...

    New scam on PayPal !

Today I received four email messages from PayPal (yes it was them, I checked). Each one was telling me that a bloke had made a request for $499 to buy stuff in Boots. I don't think Boots is in the USA, so why was the request in US$? So far so obvious. PayPal were helping me out, right? I logged...
