Yeah I had a look at the part numbers and it is more than just the plate that is new. When you take your bike back to trek, get them to also check that all the bolts on the battery are correctly tightened. Some of mine came loose.
Yeah it must be a new thing to stop the battery falling out. I wonder if it's going to be sold as a kit. It would make sense, as it's a fairly common issue.

My LBS did did the short crank update even though it has the original 165 cranks installed on one of our 2020 Trek Rail 7. The other 2020 Rail 7 has the standard software update. When I get a chance I will compare the two to see if the difference is noticeable.

Final update. Added the extra pawls, greased up and assembled. The cap can now be removed much more easily, so future hub servicing should be a breeze. I wonder how often this actually happens. The trek mechanic said it was common.
Ended up taking it to the local trek shop. They had a tool specifically for getting these off when they are stubborn. Even with the tool it tool quite alot of effort. It's off now and I can now service the hub and add the extra Pawls. Will be interesting to see how much force is required to get...
