If you are in UK be very careful about considering - laws differ. In UK assistance stops at 16mph so you need to grind manually to exceed that. I regularly ride tracks / tow paths when I am linking routes with motor off and you can get above 16mph on flat but it is hard work and you notice...

No mudguards on any of my bikes and I ride all year. Getting muddy is part of the fun (and I have never found any that really work!)

I really wouldn't worry about it using the main battery - how much do you really think it is going to use? My Trek runs the same way - says it has approx. 300 shifts in reserve when the battery is showing as empty. Which I guess could give me an extra metre of drive :)

New saddle to replace the Bontrager arse axe that came with the bike. Had a Fizik Alliante sitting in garage so have put that on. Strictly speaking it is a road saddle but was comfy on the XC bike so though nothing to lose.
