Sherwood Pines off-piste ride Sun 31st Jul’22 – Fun day out!

Brilliant, thanks for that. I should have more time off soon, so I'll get in touch if that's OK. Looking forward to it. Cheers Iain

Sherwood Pines off-piste ride Sun 31st Jul’22 – Fun day out!

Can't make it as I'm working. Gutted. Will anyone have a Garmin or such like and be able to post a .gpx of the route. Failing that, might there be another date for this loop in the not too distant future??? Cheers Iain

    Ultrasonic chain cleaning.

This is pretty much what I do. Given the melting point of wax is a lot lower than the boiling point of water why do you reckon that the boiling water doesn't remove the wax. I get what looks like a waxy residue on the surface of the water after putting a previously waxed chain in boiling...

    Ultrasonic chain cleaning.

FWIW, I've found the ultrasonic cleaner to be a faff. After you've cleaned your chain to produce the brown water shown above (20 minutes in the cleaner?), you should probably clean it again and see if more comes off (and again?). I've found petrol to be the best cleaner (I've even tried boiling...

Tubeless tape... wtf am I doing wrong?

Hi, FWIW. If the tape won't stick to the rim initially (my experience recently) I rubbed the rim down with wire wool briefly, which although visually it made no difference it obviously provided enough of a 'key' on the rim to allow the tape to adhere. Absolutely agree with putting the tape on...

Spinning the cassette backwards by packpedalling......how to?

Double sided velcro around the back of one of the arms of the spider, then around the crank. Takes seconds, doesn't scratch anything and you can spin the pedals backwards and use your chain cleaner as normal!

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

Thanks to all for the kind thoughts about the shoulder, I'm afraid jumps are my nemesis! It's interesting however how different people's range experiences are for apparently similar setups. I find it hard to believe that the bike itself can make that much of a difference and at 85kg I'm no...

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

I'm afraid I can't give you much more information. I separated my shoulder in a crash after 'casing' a jump a couple of months ago (sounds bigger and cleverer than it actually was) and haven't been back on any kind of MTB since (hoping to restart gently again soon). I definitely felt that...

Should the std MPH be increased by + 3mph to18mph

I've found that riding a conventionally restricted eMTB that I'm constantly hitting the limit on flat single track. This leads to a repetitive on/off assist as speed varies around 25Kmh and this just leads to an unpleasant ebike experience. As a result I've got my bike to think it's in the USA...

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

I think from a range point of view this is the solution. I'm kinda coming round to the Eco as default mode and trail for steep climbs (though you can spin up in Eco) and Boost for super steep climbs. This seems to work OK. I've wondered about increasing assist in Eco by one 'notch' but haven't...

I've downloaded the STRide app, so I'll see how it goes. Thanks again

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

I haven't messed with the different profiles too much but that's interesting. I still like Boost for short super steep 'step up' type climbs otherwise I agree that Trail is fine for pretty much everything else, especially if you're willing to spin a fastish cadence. Do you swap profiles mid-ride...

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

Brilliant, I always have a Garmin for all my rides, so I'll check that out. Is there a way to record how much time you spend in each setting (Eco/Trail/Boost) with the Garmin? I'm not completely over the 'range anxiety' but getting there... Thanks again for that

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

Range update. Milder weather, battery kept indoors whilst charging and put on bike just prior to riding. 51K ride, 594m climbing, 2hrs 37 minutes riding time, 3 bars left by the time I got home. Rode mostly in Eco with brief periods of Trail and Boost. This is beginning to look a bit more like...

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

Did the suspension post disappear? Anyway, this is all a black art as far as I'm concerned. Really liked the Tuesday Tune videos after following the link and it does look like the 2021 Fox 38 dampers have very different adjustment ranges from the 2020 ones. I've always thought it was LSC that...

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

Hmm, sounds like your 50.48Km to almost out of charge in (what I assume are) warmer temperatures is not far off my 40Km in very cold conditions in Trail. I suspect that you might get more range by reducing max. torque in Trail just a little (but that may not be an issue for you) Still learning...

Did I miss how much charge you had left at the end of the ride?

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

Range anxiety update 2(?) OK, finally got hold of the BTE-80 off-bike battery charger adapter (had to get it from Italy!) and kept the battery inside at home whilst charging it. Disconnected it and reconnected it to the charger a few times when the charging light went off (on reconnecting the...

Well, that's been my experience. Your mileage may vary!

Commencal Meta Power Signature 29 2021early thoughts (TLDR?)

I bricked my bike trying to do a firmware update so agree that the experience with the eTube app for that purpose may not be ideal! The problem is that the app corrupts the original firmware in trying to write the new version, so if the update fails you can't access the bike wirelessly. I had...
