I don't have an Avinox M2 powered bike. Am I going to die?

Hi Greg. As per the title - I don't have a bike that runs an M2S (or even the low-rent, poverty-pack M2) motor. Does this mean that I am going to die soon? It feels potentially life-threatening to own a bike with such measly numbers as 85NM of torques.

Don't have money - which body part can fund my next bike?

As per the title - I would like to buy a new eBike - preferably a long travel, full power, Shimano XT Di2 machine with XTR brakes and all the fun stuff. I have about NZ$11.50, so wondering which body parts I can sell off for the most funds? Insights into the body parts/organs market, Greg?

What is the average tenure of EMTB ownership?

Looking at the average ownership journey of the average EMTB owner, what's the average length of time that a rider owns an EMTB? I understand that this will vary, based on location, rider style, distance covered etc, but looking for a general idea...

Annual reminder for the southern hemisphere lot to go get those moles checked! Summer's coming and they may only get worse!

Speaking from experience - even our winter UV levels are high here in NZ, so it's just time to remind those of us who are in the southern hemisphere to make sure you look after your skin and yourself. I've just had what seems to be becoming an annual round of surgery to remove some suspected...

    Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Airshaft - 2019+ vs 2025

Hi team. Have ordered a new (longer) airshaft for my Z1, which is the older model (2019-2024) which functionally is the same as the latest version, other than the damper (mine has a Grip damper and the new one has a Rail 2). Shockcraft have advised that their supplier (Fox) have sent them a...

    Shimano XT Di2 12 speed

I can get the shifter and derailleur for $459 (NZD) on special and am quite tempted as I have a $500 credit to spend that's burning a hole in my pocket. Am I just throwing money away, considering that I already run XT mechanical? Will I get any real-world benefit from coast-shift (Freeshift)...

Forks: 160mm travel to 170mm - is there a noticeable difference?

Been umming and aahing about upping the travel in my forks on the Merida eOne Sixty (last model, not current one) Two reasons - I think if I had slightly more travel, I could run more sag (lower pressure) for a slightly plusher ride and it would also slacken my HTA by about 1/2 a degree. Has...

So SRAM have just released a new Transmission Groupset to celebrate their beginnings in 1987 https://www.sram.com/en/sram/mountain/series/eagle-transmission-1987-collection It's nice and cheap, but has all the usual features you'd expect: Cranks, Casette, Chain, Derailleur, Shifter Pods etc...

    2024 Merida eOne-Sixty - noises...

Had the rig now for about 9 months. Have ridden around 700km on it, mostly single track and jump trails. On the last couple of rides, I have noticed a large increase in the amount of rattle I am getting - it appears to be from the rear of the bike, but could be projecting through the frame. I...

If you could buy 5 ebikes (money no object) what would they be?

Scenario: You're filthy rich. Money is simply there to be thrown around. You can buy a maximum of 5 new EMTBs. Question: Which Five Bikes available now (or confirmed about to be released) would you buy? For me it's a difficult one - I'd definitely want a short-travel trail bike, a light-EMTB...

EP6 - recent software update (05/02/2025) - any release notes?

Have just had a notification that there was a new update for the EP6, so loaded it up, as I always do. No release notes that I can see anywhere. Doesn't seem to have changed anything in the tuning side of things - still no assist carryover for the EP6, so assume it was bug fixes. Anyone have...

Shimano “race” software update now available in E-TUBE app

Previously only available from a dealer via computer, Shimano are now advertising on social media that the update is available for ep801 motors via the e-tube app. This is the update that gives things like extended boost/overrun etc.

Have Merida discontinued the e160 full-fat?

Was just looking at the Merida website and they had the e160SL, e180 and no others that I could find. Have they quietly discontinued all of the Shimano-powered bikes? https://www.merida-bikes.com/fi-fi/bikefinder/tag-group/e-mountainbikes-25/root/e-mtb

    New Step-thru Haibike eMTB

So this came up in my socials feed. Thought it was both interesting and polarising. Step-through, but trail-capable. OK low-end spec. Will be interesting to see how it actually rides. Looks like the perfect bike for my wife! 2025 Haibike AllTrail Low first test – Lowrider with trail...

    Merida eOne-Sixty 700

Jumped into the eWorld last week and so far I am absolutely stoked. Initially took the beast for a shakedown road ride to get things how Iike them, then took it out on it's maiden trail ride yesterday. Having come from a long-travel enduro bike with high-end components, I decided that I needed...

    Hello from another new eKiwi!

Just picked up my first eBike today. Super stoked to be starting on a new adventure in my mountain biking journey. Been riding MTB since the early 90’s and have had a fascination with e-bikes for a few years now.
