    Chain stretch dilema.

Chain has done 1300mls but I have changed it as I have done for years when the the gauges register 0.5%. But by the 100 link method it looks ok so the dilema is which do you trust. My chains are always clean and looked after and for what they cost I don’t mind replacing them. This is the first...

    Chain stretch dilema.

Sorry for the late reply, been away. So, I got a 1 inch batten of wood with a pin in one end to fit the end chain link (tight fit). The batten was marked off at exactly 50 inches (100 links). The actual measurement over 100 links was +3/32”, so that’s 0.18%. I did put tension on the chain. I...

    Chain stretch dilema.

I have three flat bar chain checkers which I use and change my chains at 0.5%. I recently purchased one of those with the small pins and sliding gauge and printed on it it said that new chains can be between 0.25 and 0.5%. Thinking this was strange I checked three new Shimano chains, one 12...

Do 12 speeds still make sense for full powered EMTB's?

Whatever gearing the manufacturers like to put on the latest bikes it would be nice if there was a different range of aftermarket cassettes. My first emtb in 2013 was a Trek with Sram X1 gearing. This was a seven speed 13 to 51t which had horrendous gaps between the gears. This didn’t last very...

    Avinox M2S: 1,500W, 150Nm, and a PR Offensive

My old Gen 2 Bosch has a 500Wh battery. My average rides are 25 to 30 miles with 3 to 4000ft of ascent, some over 30% and I’ve never returned with less than 30% battery. I’m 79.

Strange pattern visible under paint on carbon frame — cosmetic or structural?

I’ve got a purplish Cube, can’t remember what they call the colour, but it is covered in these patters and is the carbon layer grinning through. Looks cool, if I can remember what cool means.

How Do You Keep Your Bike Safe?

Exactly. When my bike was stolen then found six months later the insurance company didn’t want to collect it and asked me if I wanted to make an offer. So I made a silly offer which they accepted. It even had a new battery charger.

Warning signs of a bike company about to go broke?

All true but if you’ve got your bike at a good discount, it’s a well known make and the warrantee can be satisfied by another dealer then you’re all set for a few years. 10 in my case.

Warning signs of a bike company about to go broke?

I used to think that being taken over by a non biking company was a disaster waiting to happen but my partner has just bought a bike from what must be one of the biggest suppliers in the U.K. at a good discount and they are owned by some venture capitalists.

    Ay up me ducks!

My partner just bought a brand new Cube 144 EX for £3k from Paul’s Cycles. They’ve got loads of stock on 2025 bikes.

    Just a rambling about gears...

Unlike most people on here, when I come down the cassette I go slower as I can’t or don’t want to pedal harder. Whilst on the subject of gears, I’ve had my latest bike for 12 months and the chain has never been on the four smallest sprockets. So I could do with an 8 or 10 speed 21/51 cassette...

    Bosch's eMTB+ vs Turbo

Some years ago I used Sport, then EMTB and now EMTB+ and I could never generate enough torque on a steep hill to match Turbo. Wherever I was peddling, sometimes on tracks over 33% I could always feel a boost in Turbo. Perhaps I’m just weak.

Product safety recall – 2025 hybrids with ACID MTB HYBRID PRO crank arms

Nothing wrong with either the crank arm or the retaining bolt. Notice that Cube only want them returned for inspection. Too much of the wrong Loctite was used effecting the torque on the screw by up to 10Nm. The recommended tighten to 55Nm solves the problem. Ive heard all sorts of stories...

    Tubeless sealant top up

I wouldn’t have thought that you’d get the correct amount all ready in with your dipstick as some will be lining the tyre, although it would be consistent. Rightly or wrongly I just put the suggested amount in and hope that it does the job.

    Expensive emtb vs Surron

Thanks for your reply but getting one of these is the last thing on my mind. I would destroy them all found on the roads and bridleways.

    Expensive emtb vs Surron

I was under the impression the these bikes were not homoligated for use in the U.K. so could not be registered for use on the roads. Quite apart from getting insurance. Is that wrong?

Product safety recall – 2025 hybrids with ACID MTB HYBRID PRO crank arms

My old bike and my partner’s bike are both 10 years old with Acid crank arms so crap cranks is not a given. A problem can happen with every component made, even Hope, that doesn’t make them all crap. Perhaps you have more pedal strikes than me.

    Tubeless sealant top up

Just topping my sealant up for the 4th time. I was just wondering if people just keep adding more until the tyre needs replacing or clean stuff out at some point. Not had a tyre off yet so not sure what to expect re solidified sealant. Before I went tubeless I had the tyre off on most rides.
