Not sure that is correct Greg...my issue is that when my motor was derestricted by the Polish chap he didn't have a config file for Santa Cruz...so used an Orbea file instead. All still works fine, I just can't get the 120Nm update to work. But ebikedoctor can address that if I need to sort it...

not sure any one is dissing the bike. Just concerned that knee jerk legislation is going to react to high powered motors - my bike is limited from 85 to 60Nm but it still draws 339W in turbo - exceeding 250W - don't want to be told I can only ride with permission on private land or other...

May I ask why not VolSpeed or Speedbox ? I think they havce a pretty good reputation in this field ? Am I wrong ?

Bosch and others absolutely do build chip detection. I'm pretty sure the whole issue with smart system derestriction is how good Bosch are at detecting it. Some manufactures make more effort than others. Specialized for example don't really seem to care and just do the bare minimum. Best post...

I live in the Netherlands. Flat county Derestrict your bike. 25 km per hour is annoying.

For interest, the figures for the southern England pedalhounds enduro series thats just wrapped up are as follows. Emtb open 59 entries Emtb restricted 135 entries 44% derestricted. Of course they may have been some derestricted cheater's in the restricted class.

There indeed seems to be a Claud Butler Wrath 2.0 eMTB which is driven by a Bafang drive unit, see e.g. here. However, due to the fact that I only know the "Shimano universe" and don´t have any clue in other systems, I am not able to add some knowledge related to this Bafang based bike.

Until I read this thread, I had thought that the Bosch gen 5 could not be derestricted. Is that no longer true? :unsure:

MountainTuning can you confirm if the firmware would need to be updated before derestricting? Do you have a list of what the latest supported firmware is? I can picture bosch releasing a firmware update that could detect this method and then brick the motor. I would like to be able to confirm...

...till now. As this gets surpassed, people will start to complain and then there will be a limit, and especially if they start to derestrict the motors and fly around the trails. That will definitely happen here. There are still communities with awesome trails that do not even permit Class 1...
