New bike day, Mondraker Crafty RR

I do like the info and all the stats it generates. It is just that it is too big and the mount is such that you can’t tuck it away out of harm’s way. I prefer the original Kiox on my 2021 Cube. Nice brake levers by the way.

Old topic. Bosch Gen 4 motors

That’s news to me. As far as I am aware there is no maintenance schedule for these Bosch motors. They are sold as maintenance free sealed units. Yes, it is very disappointing that these motors fail at such low mileages with water ingress. Then further frustrating that Bosch will not support...

Mines got the Kiox 500 display, which is lovely in itself, but on the other hand it is like having a tablet mounted to your bars. Way OTT. Will that mount take the Kiox 500 (that looks like a 300 in the snap), and will it allow the display to be tucked out of the way as per that photo. Has...

Yes it does feel a bit odd.

A couple of snaps of the riderwalker charge port cover. Expensive for what it is. But then it is small scale manufacturing, well made, and a nice snug fit. So yeah, I’m well pleased with it, and is a major improvement over the shockingly rubbish and inadequate Mondraker cover.

    Mondraker Crafty RR thru axle

Thank-you Darren! (y) Went back out to the garage. Tried the 6mm again and thought, naw that’s never going in. But I persevered as surely they’d all be the same. Then it just popped in. Its really tight, but it does go in. Never had that before. So yeah dumb question and I feel pretty silly...

    Mondraker Crafty RR thru axle

Cheers Miker, It doesn’t seem to be 5.5mm, too slack a fit. 6.0mm won’t go in. It looks like T40H. It is hard to see as the outer is circular, so hard to identify by eye. T40H just seems weird. And I don’t like putting pressure on stuff unless I am certain I have the right fitting. Hoping...

    Mondraker Crafty RR thru axle

5mm allen nice and snug into my Cube thru axle - as I would expect 5.5mm goes into my Mondraker thu axle but with lots of play. Is this an insert, into which the thru-axle threads?

    Mondraker Crafty RR thru axle

Possible dumb question here, So decided I’d pop out to the garage and fit the Mudhugger mudguards this afternoon. I’ve only been out on the bike twice since I got it. All I’ve done is get it out the box, fit the front wheel, pedals, set the saddle hight, check the tyre pressures, and yes go...

New bike day, Mondraker Crafty RR

I was very tempted by AXS. With my Cube originally having the cables down through the headset and the strong spring on modern MTB derailleurs I was developing a nasty repetitive strain injury on my right thumb. But once I had the cables out of the headset the situation with my thumb gradually...

New bike day, Mondraker Crafty RR

Lovely RR there my man, that blue/black/white colour way 🫠. Thank you. Yours looks great too. How long have you had it? Any issues? I only really bought mine as I expect to get made redundant sometime this year – my work has a good C2W scheme, and with my Cube being well abused I thought I...

    Chain oil

Scottoilers are brilliant, but yes can be messy, but then chain drives are messy. I would do 30,000 miles on a DID ZVM and I couldn’t find any measurable wear on the chain. I never adjusted it between tyre changes. I only ditched them at over 30,000 miles because I was wary of running a third...

    Battery charging question

Absolutely ideal Steve. Sadly, my garage has zero insulation, and basically it is at ambient temperature. So as a precaution during an extended cold period, such as just now, the batteries come inside. I’m just playing safe. That means a monster Mondraker in the hall just now. How did bicycles...

    Battery charging question

I’d say don’t worry and just use it. Try not to fully discharge it, and if you do, or it is below 30% charge after a ride get it straight on charge as soon as you can. If you are not going to be using it for a few weeks try not to charge to 100%, try to leave it between 30 and 70%. Another...

Old topic. Bosch Gen 4 motors

Newman is Cube’s wheel brand. I’ve got a hope hub on the rear laced onto the Newman rim on my old Cube. The Newman hubs seem a bit soft. The front I now have a DT Swiss wheel. Will see how they go. My Mondraker has Mavic Wheels, apart from the dreadful lettering on the rims they look pretty...

Old topic. Bosch Gen 4 motors

I’m not hosing mine down anymore. I got a mere 3400 miles out of the motor before it died with water ingress. And that was just after I had every pivot bearing on the bike replaced – they were absolutely destroyed and some of them seized solid. Rear hub has been replaced and I’ve fitted a new...

Old topic. Bosch Gen 4 motors

So I’ve gone a similar but different route. For a number of reasons, I bought another ebike. Those are that I suspect I’m going to be made redundant sometime in the next year – so decided a good idea to bag another c2w bike, as redundancy should spell retirement for me. Then there is the Bosch...

Old topic. Bosch Gen 4 motors

I think your experience is fairly typical. My first motor lasted about two and a half years and 3400 miles. The refurb I bought lasted about 200 miles before needing a rebuild. Not used the bike as much over the last year, but so far so good on the rebuilt refurb. I used to hose the bike down...

Bosch Gen4 Seal Service & Grease up

Bosch grease is 50p per gram. Motorex 2000, 2.3p per gram, for the same thing.
