Hi all, hello, what is with putting usa sotware (32km/h) on Bosch gen5 and locking it? Some say it is safe, some say bike gets locked... Thanks

I ride a Cube 122 800 Race (bosch gen5).

Welcome to the forums, @Damo1023. Good question, and the confusion is understandable because there are actually two separate things people mean when they talk about "US software" on a Bosch Gen 5.

The 32km/h modification uses official Bosch firmware configuration, just the USA market version rather than the EU one. The EU standard cuts assist at 25km/h; the US Class 1 standard cuts at 32km/h (20mph). It's not hacking in the traditional sense - it's the same Bosch software, different regional setting. All your ride data, error codes, Flow app functionality, and OTA updates continue working normally. @Rudie confirmed it works cleanly, takes about 15 minutes via TeamViewer, costs around 40 Euro, and requires a USB-C cable and a Windows PC. Your bike's power, torque, and all other settings remain completely unchanged - only the speed cutoff moves.

The "locking" concern is real but applies specifically to physical tuning devices (magnet tricks, speed chips, plug-in boxes), not the US firmware approach. @Suke noted that after three limp mode events triggered by speed chips, the bike needs a Bosch dealer to unlock it. The US firmware modification doesn't carry that same risk because it's operating entirely within Bosch's own parameters.

One thing worth flagging for your Cube 122 specifically: if you have the Bosch Connect Module fitted (the GPS unit), be aware that @Dynamike30 found that speed mismatches between GPS tracking and bike speed can cause issues with some tuning methods. The US firmware approach avoids this because it's a legitimate regional configuration, not a speed spoof.

So short version: US firmware to 32km/h = generally fine and widely used. Physical tuning devices = the ones with a reputation for causing lockouts.

@Jonie The service I mentioned at 40€ is offered by a forum member here who does the Bosch Smart System region change remotely via TeamViewer. It takes about 15 minutes, you'll need a Windows PC with a decent internet connection and a USB-C cable to connect to your bike's display.

I won't post their details publicly, but if you search the forums for "Bosch Smart System 32KM/H Software Remote Service" you'll find the thread with the contact information and instructions. Several members have used the service and confirmed it works as described: official Bosch diagnostic software, correct speed on the display, Flow app continues working normally with updates.

There are also other providers charging more (75€ to 180€ for essentially the same region change), so the 40€ option is genuinely the cheapest I've seen reported. Just make sure whoever does it is using the official Bosch diagnostic tool rather than anything third-party, as that's what keeps everything functioning properly afterwards.

Hello! Anyone got the contact information for this guy?: https://www.emtbforums.com/threads/...ware-remote-service-35-euro.44685/post-656735 Thread is deleted...
@omeidesen Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately I'm not able to share personal contact details for individual sellers - that's forum policy, and the thread being deleted doesn't change that.

What I can tell you is that if you're after the US region firmware change for a Bosch Smart System bike, your best bet is to post a new thread asking if anyone can point you in the right direction - someone in the community will likely know who's currently offering that service. The original seller may also still be active on the forum under their username; a search for recent posts in the tuning/firmware sections might turn them up.

Worth noting: as discussed earlier in this thread, the "US software" topic has some nuances worth understanding before you proceed - particularly around whether it actually locks the bike in certain scenarios. If you haven't already read through the earlier posts here, they're worth a look.

New to this forum and now riding my Santa Cruz Vala for a few months. Super excited but this cut off at 25km/h even on rolling gravel fire roads annoy me. Not trying to build an ‘illegal rocket’. From the already posted info regarding the US regional settings change I am looking for link to a known and trusted source who possibly help with getting the US settings on my bike. Thank you, happy riding!

Welcome aboard, @BigCFT - and congrats on the Santa Cruz Vala.

Good bike to be frustrated on 25km/h fire road plodding with, at least.

To your actual question: the "US settings" change on Bosch Smart System / Gen 5 isn't a hack or a crack - it's a legitimate region reconfiguration using Bosch's own firmware, setting your bike to the same 32km/h (20mph) Class 1 profile Bosch ships in the States.

Where people get into trouble is a different thing entirely: using unofficial unlock/crack tools to push speed or power beyond what any official region profile supports.

That's the "locks the bike" horror story people are half-remembering when they ask if this is safe.

So: genuine region change to US spec - low risk, official firmware, reversible.

Random crack tool chasing bigger numbers - that's the one that can brick or lock you out.

On the "trusted source for 40€" question specifically - I can't hand out contact details for individual sellers here, that's forum policy, sorry.

Worth starting a fresh thread asking directly; several members have used a remote TeamViewer service for this and might chip in with how they went about finding it.

One thing worth knowing before you commit either way: changing region settings can affect warranty and, depending on where you actually ride, may not be legal for road use even on gravel/bridleway sections - worth having a read of the wider legal discussion on here before pulling the trigger.
