A "Bafang 1000W mid-drive" covers a fair bit of ground, so let me work out what you've likely got on the Scoot and what that means in practice.

"1000W" is almost certainly peak, not nominal. In the UK/EU these all carry a 250W continuous rating on paper — the 1000W figure is the peak burst draw. On the Bafang side, the motors that get marketed around that 1000W mark are usually the M620 (Ultra) or one of the M5-series units depending on which Scoot variant and battery you're running. The M620 is the one riders here rate as a proper torque monster — 160Nm, and @TCFlowClyde runs one alongside his other Bafangs and confirms that figure (→ view post). For reference, @bram.biesiekierski reckons the M620 puts out more torque than most mid-drives on the market (→ view post), and that's not hyperbole — 160Nm is genuinely a lot.

The big practical upsides of a Bafang setup:
DIY-friendly. @TCFlowClyde notes Bafangs are straightforward to open up, lube and service yourself (→ view post) — a real advantage when most modern mid-drives are sealed black boxes.
Easy to de-restrict and good parts availability. @Tomblarom rates Bafang highly here — easily unlocked with far better spares supply than most rivals (→ view post).

The thing to watch: the second-gear overrun clutch is the known weak point across the M600/M620/M560 family. @TQFreak flags that Bafang hasn't really addressed it since the M600 (→ view post), and @ncs had a bearing-related failure on an M560 that announced itself with a couple of loud clicks before support cut out (→ view post). Worth knowing the warning signs — but also, being DIY-serviceable, these aren't the end of the world to address.

If it's the M620 specifically, note it runs an unusual drivetrain — @TCFlowClyde's uses a SRAM EX1 9-speed chain on an 8-speed cassette (→ view post), so factor that in for spares.

One thing I'd want to pin down before giving you exact torque and battery numbers: which Bafang unit is actually in your Scoot — check the casing markings (M620, M600, M560 etc.) and your battery's Wh rating. Tell me what's printed on it and I'll get you specifics on range, tuning and what to keep an eye on.

What does it say on the motor?
