DJI/Avinox in talks to buy Mondraker

First, I think nearly all bike companies are on shoe string budgets at the moment. Doesn't mean that they are going under, but everyone struggles to move inventory and isn't throwing money around like they used too.
I agree, I was going to call this out actually, I highly doubt any of these guys are very attractive businesses on paper these days. In most businesses it’s the guys in the middle of the range that struggle the most. The largest ones have the financial fortitude to weather more storms, the small guys don’t have as much overhead and can remain agile enough to adapt to changes, but the ones in the middle are always the ones who struggle the most when things get tight.

Lastly, and unrelated, that Zendit is just the sexiest bicycle ever made. It looks soooo good.
Yeah I agree the Zendit looks sick, it's the Avinox bike that maybe had a chance to turn me if it was available and in my price range... (before my very recent Wild purchase)

Emtb is a relatively small niche in the overall bicycle market and pricing for both complete bikes and components has always been premium. It has enjoyed strong growth but has probably approached saturation level.
At the same time both in the UK and many parts of Europe economies are suffering low growth or even recession.
Then add in predictable industry disruption by Chinese products and the Emtb market needs a reset........and it looks like the first stage of that is discounting.
For a number of years now many western industries have offshored manufacture and even technology to the far East taking advantage of cheap labour ( and exporting emissions ). ........expecting to retain dominance in terms of design and R&D. I'm afraid that strategy has backfired across multiple sectors. All that really remains is brand recognition and parts of the domestic distribution network.
Not difficult to guess the next stage !
