Hi All,

I'm a newbee on the forum. I just got my wife a 2023 Liv Intrigue X Advanced E+ EL 1 and the previous owner said it had been ridden about 20 times. After we purchased it my wife went out for a ride and loved it. I put it on the charger and then began packing for a trip to Moab, UT. When we arrived in Utah, the Liv was dead. No lights, no power; nothing. I thought maybe I had charged it wrong so plugged in the charger in Moab, and the charger glowed red, but never amber or green. I thought that maybe the charger was bad so I borrowed a charger from the local Giant shop and their charger did the same thing, glowed red and never amber or green. So her new LIV was dead for our trip to Utah.

When I returned home, I took the bike to the local Giant dealer and they said the battery was bad. Maybe he's right but I was stunned that a bike with so few hours could already have a bad battery. I brought the bike back from the shop without having him work on it further because I wanted to take the battery out myself and see if it truly is bad. I'm wondering if something has disconnected. Does anyone have access to the Giant service manual for this model? This model has the battery integrated inside the downtube. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try cleaning all the terminals where the battery plugs into the frame and the charging port with contact cleaner and check for any bent or damaged pins. And try charging the battery out of the bike if you have the correct adapter. My 22 Reign came with one that plugs directly into the battery in the charger box

Thanks for the suggestions on cleaning terminals. With the battery out of the bike, I tried plugging in the charger. The charger did not respond. So I'm focused on the charger now. I'm getting 120v to the charger but I check the pins for output with my multimeter and I'm getting nothing. From other sources I was told that Pin # 4 is ground and so based on that being the case, no power is exiting the charger. When I plug the charger in the wall, there is an immediate flash of red and then green and then nothing in the LED A window. I'm out of warranty since I'm not the original owner so I'm hesitant to buy a new charger from Giant if these chargers have a failure history. I read from another source that any 42v 4amp charger will work if I wire in my female plug from my failed charger and connect only + and - wires. Thoughts?

how they check the battery?
just remove the junction box, take the battery and any Giant retailer can check just the battery via ServiceTool using the OBD and the proper adaptor for that battery.

Before that, check if there is any type of corrosion on that conexion between battery and junction box.

I wouldn’t mess around with re wiring chargers... I would take the battery to a shop to try a different charger or ask around and see if someone nearby has one that I could try. If it is the charger stump up for a genuine one rather than bodging one together
