I normally ride a Trek rail 7 which has been upgraded to 170mm up front and 156mm in the rear. So I stopped at my local dealer (City Forest MTB trails are directly across the street) and the Rep from Aventon was there showing off there new Current EMTB so I asked him if it was a demo and if I could ride it and he said yes. The model he had wasthe Current EXP carbon in Large. There Large is equivilant to Treks Medium. I'm 5'7" so can ride a Small / Medium in Treks line up or a Medium / Large in Aventon's. Aventon's motor modes are auto, eco, trail, turbo, & Boost. There auto is the same as Bosch's emtb mode. So I headed out to the trails and the first thing I tried was the auto mode. The auto mode is more powerful than Boschs emtb mode at 110Nm. I noticed in tighter XC trails it was to powerful in the auto mode so I switched to trail mode more like boschs tour mode and that was more natural for the tighter XC trails. When I got to the more hilly parts of the trails i switched back in to auto mode and that is where there auto mode shines!! While turning a corner with a good size up hill in the middle of the corner is no problem in the auto mode. Just push on the pedals a little harder and it goes right up the hill. In faster XC trails auto & Turbo mode is a blast. On biggers hills if you think you might run out of steam just push the Boost button (30 seconds of a 120Nm).

Going from 170/156 travel down to 150/140 travel was noticable. The rep said you can extend the front to 160mm. I didnt do any jumps or crazy things and used about 3/4 of the supsenion travel just trail riding. The stock suspension was pretty supple for the travel IMO.

The electric shifter was spot on and quicker than I expected. The Maven brakes were toucher than my DB8's on my Rail 7 and I had to think when using them.

I realy like the display in the frame rail that is toggleable with your thumb on the shift button.

My Gen 4 Bosch with 85Nm is not even in the same league as this Aventon Ultro X with 110Nm in 4 modes and 120Nm in Boost mode.

I feel like the chassis is what a modern chassis should be and was better than I expected even though I felt stretched on this Large frame as teh reach was a little long for me. ( I would raise the bars and probable get a size Medium for myself)

I feel like this bike is a true trail bike. Its not a enduro or down hill bike. The motor has the perfect power output for old geezer's like myself who are retired and dont have the strength and stamina like we did 30 years ago. It would be great for people with dissabilities as well like COPD etc. This motor is exactly what what these people need as well as people who ride in the mountians who like going up the steepest of terrain. Overall I am impressed with the bike and love the power of the motor. And no I not getting paid or am I affiliated with Aventon in any way. I'm just giving you guys my opinion.

I rode one today and agree with everything you said. Actually rode one back to back with a Gen4 Levo comp that had similar specs. I have to say the Aventon felt better in almost every way and is noticeably lighter when picking it up. The power controller is better and much easier to toggle between power modes and features on the Aventon. The only thing that is noticeable it the motor does rattle when coasting over rough terrain like a Bosch motor and the Specialized is silent. The suspension and brakes were the most impressive to me as were the ergonomics. Also the Adventon has the edge on handling especially on turn in coming into flat turns at speed.
I don’t know what to think, feel a little guilty but I am probably going to buy one. I have owned 5 Levo’s up until now but have had so many problems with them but liked them when they worked and Specialized always took care of me on warranty problems and even replaced a motor out of warranty.
