My Giant Syncdrive Pro (Yamaha PW-X3 underneath, I believe) makes an odd noise. It only happens when pedalling at high cadence with little torque input on the pedals, and it's a chirpy squeal noise. I had a PW-X2 in the past that made a similar noise. Anyone else experiencing this same noise?

The motor functions perfectly and sounds normal under all other conditions

I've answered already on another thread. Have the same problem of this noise on higher cadence and first two assist modes. That really annoys me.

I haven't got to the bottom of this yet but since posting I've spoken to an ebike motor repair centre & they've said they think they can sort it and that some Yamaha's are like this even from the factory. I will be sending it away at some point to get serviced & hopefully eradicate the noise

Good to know, would be great if there is something to solve this issue, even I don't know exactly where the noise is coming from and what the motor repair center will do in detail. Please keep us updated about costs and success.

My motor is now with the ebike motor repair centre as it developed very slight play in the bottom bracket also. I've mentioned the noise, hopefully it's something they can solve as they do officially service the PW-X3/Giant SyncDrive Pro now. I'll update once it's done!

Can you tell me how it turned out?

I can't say whether it's getting worse for me or if I'm just becoming more sensitive to it, but the noise is really getting on my nerves, especially when I'm riding with other non-E bikers.

After my motor came back from
service, 'that noise' was a lot quieter for about 5 miles lol, then it came back how it was before 😑

The service centre suggested it's due to worn gears but I'm not convinced seeing as I've experienced this on two separate motors after only around 100 miles from new

I read somewhere there was/is an official fix from Yamaha that involves fitting a shim?

Sorry I can't offer any more help at the minute, I've decided to just live with it for now

oh no, sorry for that =(

It's a shame there isn't much information about this. Either it only affects a few people, or they've gotten used to the noise. Unfortunately, there are hardly any posts from people who have actually taken the motor apart. It doesn't seem to be anything complicated, at least. But I can't quite figure out what's causing the noise.

I read about the shim on Reddit; it was mentioned in someone's repair report, but it wasn't confirmed. =(

The bike and motor are generally great... but when I start riding and hear that noise, I'd almost sell it.
