modification of shock travel rise LT 2025

Hello.

After a year of using my Rise 2025, my riding style has evolved. I ride faster, and on rough terrain, the shock absorber doesn't keep up. I'm running out of travel.

I've tried every possible adjustment, without success.

Do you think it's possible to install a longer-travel shock ? I currently have a RockShox Vivid Ultimate in 210x55.

If that's not possible, I think I'll have to resolve it by buying a new bike...

So first off - how have you found the Vivid UItimate vs the stock Fox Float X? Is it a coil or Air Vivid? *

The answer is likely either a better shock or a different bike. A different/better shock might use the travel you've got better but it looks as if you've already changed from stock for some reason.

You might squeeze an extra 10mm of travel out of the bike by fiddling with linkages or bushings but I don't believe you'll feel any benefit. Ultimate the Rise is a 150mm travel Trail/All mountain bike. If you're riding stuff that really needs a heavier, longer travel, Enduro bike, you need a heavier, longer travel Enduro bike.

* Can anyone explain Rock Shox naming conventions for rear shocks? I thought Vivid were Air and Deluxe were coil but seems that's not the case. I've been intrigued to find how the SDUltimate air rides on the Rise

I installed a Vivid AIR.

I think I made a HUGE mistake buying this Orbea Rise. I immediately felt that this coil shock quickly reached its limits on fast, bumpy sections. I switched to the VIVID, which made an improvement but not enough.

As explained above, with practice, my riding style improves, and I ride faster with more commitment. I think I've reached the limits of this bike. I should have chosen the ORBEA WILD with its 170mm travel. The Rise is on sale and I took back my old wild from 2021 with 160 travel.

Good move. I had a 216x62.5mm shock with offset bushings, a cascade link and a 27.5 rear wheel on my rise. That made it more capable for sure, but I was still well beyond the limits of the design of the bike from a stiffness, geometry and capability perspective. If i had to do it all over again, I would have bought a wild instead and I would likely still have it. I ended up selling my rise and getting a relay, and then selling that and getting santacruz bullit.
 
excellent choice the bullit. I prefer the wild to be in 29 inches at the rear.
 
Yeah, unfortunately the rise is a trail bike and not and enduro bike. Any attempt to enduro it will be putting a bandage on an axe wound.

Cut your losses and sell up and buy an actual enduro bike.
I see very little point underbiking on an e-bike. You might as well go the most capable bike for your riding style. Afterall you do more laps, go faster and get more dh on an E. Plus you dont need to worry about a sucky to pedal enduro bike.

Sell up and go full send on a worthy steed.
 
Thanks everyone for your advice. I should have thought more about this when I was buying a year ago. But at the time, I didn't have the commitment or the experience to tell me that a centimeter of travel could be that important….
 
It's not just how much travel there is, its how burly the bike is built. The rise is actually a super capable bike, its just not as heavy duty and needs to be ridden as such. Pick lines, don't smash down stuff. The 2025 model is a big improvement on the first gen, however the rear end is still pretty flimsy compared to any enduro bike. If your a heavy weight rider it makes matters worse.
 
Your comment is particularly interesting because it confirms the feeling I have with this bike : The impression that the rear end is fragile, light, and not very capable.

I'm not very heavy: 85 kg fully equipped. But it's far from light. Over time, I've had to, as you indicate, choose my lines and be more mobile on the bike. But this obviously comes at a physical cost. I feel like I can never really let go on the difficult sections. I'm simply not in the Rise program. I ride Enduro-type terrain and I have an upgraded trail bike...

All this is obvious because by going back to my old Orbea Wild with 160/170 mm of travel, I can afford to let go of the brakes on the rough sections.
 
I doubt more travel is the answer you're looking for. Better damping is usually what people need when they they say they need more travel.

Either send your shock in to a good tuner or buy yourself something that's DIY tuneable. Proper damping is the most important thing you can do to your suspension.
 
End yet, the fact of having gone back to the Orbea Wild with 10 mm more travel at the front and rear, with a 38 fork and an enduro type geometry solved the problem....

What’s size was your bike ? Have you done any modifications to the shock to make it fit ?

It was a Rise LT.
160mm of travel in the front and 150mm in the rear. Shock size 210x55mm.
No modifications to the Vivid. Installation was very simple.

Thanks for the input, and what was the size of your Rise ? I'm a bit unsure if the vivid will fit my medium frame.
 
Strange the statements about the bike not being capable enough. I'm 75kg kitted up and doing set up runs in the tweed valley on enduro trails the rise was beating the times I'd set on a kenevo sl. Maybe being that bit lighter allows the poppiness of the slightly lighter bike to work better.
