Is a nice Emtb a bad idea to take camping?

I would think a full travel bike like the Wild might be overkill for the type of ride you describe but if you think you might want to hit some gnarly downhill on occasion then go for it. I’ve got a Rise with 140 sus and it’s perfect for what you describe plus I can still do the downhill on occasion.

I think the bigger question when it comes to “camping” is to get one with decent range and have a well planned route that ends at a campground with electricity where you can charge up before the next leg of the ride. And, don’t get a bike that you can’t pedal with a flat battery in case your well planned route doesn’t work out.

Here's a true and honest response from a member who appreciates opinions to posts and has been a member a lot longer than your 5 minutes, adding pathetic emojis to a post doesn't resonate as being true, and Here's the rub.
Simply posting emojis to proper and concise discussions just makes you irrelevant, having something positive to say means you may infact receive a thumbs up,as it is, right now, your wife knows how good I am and poor you are.

The big advantage is you can ride much further, on steeper trails and more often with an eMTB and if you have any single track aspirations at all then full suss is a no-brainer.

I take mine camping all the time, but I also choose camp sights that are close to MTB trails.

If your not breaking the bank spending money you can't afford or buying something your going to ride a couple times and that's it. It could be a very wise investment as apposed to buying something cheap. It doesn't sound like your trying to go ultra high end but, don't buy one unless you plan on using it some what regularly.

As others have suggested get an ebike if that will allow you to get out and have fun. As for suspension, it will smooth your ride; you don't need 150 mm to ride on Fireroads. 100 to 120mm will work fine for that, as well as the smoother single track you may try. A hardtail may work fine; take one for a test ride. I ride a 140/150 mm ebike on rough trail conditions, and I have a hardtail analog that is still a ton of fun. Don't join the over-biked crowd; it will just cost you money that you don't need to spend.

Sant Cruz, Transition and other brands have good value pricing right now for 130mm-150mm travel ebikes.
Get one of those and ride it as often as you can, it may be one of the best decisions of your life.

I have a cheaper ebike that I bought purposely for taking with me when I go camping must admit I have a trailer I tow with my car so I lock the thing in there it been OK for the last four years
But saying that now something bound to happen

I'm thinking a hardtail isn't for me, the choices get narrowed down quickly and they just don't handle the trails as well. Now it comes down to finding something I like. Really want to go with Bosch (full size) if I can find something under 50 lbs. I really like the Orbea Wild and my LBS is tempting me with one but he also has Specialized and Cannondale so I need to get in and do some riding to see where that lands me. Thanks for the direction.

I am late to the party but I would start with a few questions: ( in no particular order)

Do you and your wife ride bikes now? If yes, what are they? And what did you pay for them? How much do you ride? What type of terrain? What do you expect to pay for two e-bike? How old are you?



I think knowing where you are coming from would give every one a better idea on how to answer your question.
