    Shocked...amazed... disillusioned

I think mountain bikes in general are incredibly unreliable. Broken chains, spokes, wheel hubs, dropper posts, brake components, etc. Flat tires. Stripped cassettes. Need I go on? Add a motor and you are just adding more problems. It's fun though, and nothing else really matters than that.

Fell off, banged my head need new helmet...;-(

Love my Fox Proframe. Lots of airflow for hot days. Comfortable, and comes with multiple sizes of pads so you can customize the fit.

    Average e-biker age?

That is amazing, I've never heard of that either. I'm Type 1 diabetic with an insulin pump with CGM and the eMTB makes it easier to get out there without bonking on the lows. I still need to cut my insulin by about 50% when I'm riding though!

    Average e-biker age?

Age 54 and got my first eMTB 15 months ago. Unlike most here I haven't ridden unassisted mountain bikes since about 1996, and back then it wasn't really the same sport it is now. The eMTB is a game changer for me, but I have to stop crashing and hurting myself. My wife is getting pretty fed up.

USA Class 3 MTBs... hard to find.

As long as you have a wide ratio group set derestricting is your best option. Class 1 eMTB are typically geared low because it's meant for the trail. Class 3 bikes are geared higher for the road. You will likely need to get a larger chainring after derestricting which will compromise your low...

    Any NorCal EMTB riders?

You might want to just set up a FB account for the private groups. I'm a member of 4 or 5 of them in California and there are usually multiple ride options on weekends. Just ignore the other FB content if you aren't interested. It's a lot of fun and you will learn a lot from the other members.

I was aware of ebike hate / jealousy but I thought opinions were changing

Wow, this thread took a strange turn

    As Strava hates e-bikes....

Strava is super easy to hack. You can export the GPX, change all the times in the file with a script to a different day, and make yourself as fast as you want. GPX file format is just xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <gpx creator="StravaGPX Android"...

    First e-bike Trance E+ PRO v. Stance E+ PRO

I don't have any experience with a Stance, but it has the lower spec components and lower spec Syncdrive Sport motor instead of the Syncdrive Pro of the Trance, although on paper it's not much of a difference. The E+1 Trance has a GREAT component spec for the price. The suspension is totally...

    2019 Trance E+1 Pro ordered

Schwalbe Energizer Plus 28 x 2.00 (50-622) on Mavic Crossmax wheels (622 x 25). Those are some of the cheapest boost wheels that I could find. I believe that's equivalent to a 27.5 X 2.8, so just slightly larger than the stock wheels/tires but it fits fine. SRAM 200mm brake rotors. SRAM...

    2019 Trance E+1 Pro ordered

I've heard that about other brands as well. There was a discussion about it on a Levo thread. Everyone was scratching their heads over that one. If someone can come up with a plausible technical reason why I'd love to hear it. The SRAM Eagle X Sync 2 12-speed chainring can only be had up to...

    2019 Trance E+1 Pro ordered

One thing I did to mine recently which has improved things was to put a 38t chain ring on. This is the largest you can fit on the bike. I felt like the bike is geared way too low and I was spending 95% of my time in the top 6 gears, and probably 75% in the top 3. I couldn't even imagine using...

Error 500 codes and service outcomes...did your bike die?

I think you are talking about a Bosch Gen 3 motor? I get 500's when it overheats on a brutal 2,500 ft climb I do. If I let it sit for 10 minutes it comes right back without the error and it's fine. The first part of your problem sounds exactly like that, but the final problem sounds more...

I was aware of ebike hate / jealousy but I thought opinions were changing

I wish it was that easy. My daughter lived there for 2 years but couldn't get permanent citizenship. Too bad, because she loved it. I visited last winter and skied for a few days out of Jindabyne. I was by myself but within 1 hour I always had a ski buddy and guide for the day. Super fun...

I was aware of ebike hate / jealousy but I thought opinions were changing

I thought the very first comment in that thread was pretty spot-on: "Is it petty to gatekeep the sport? Probably. But when you change any social group's demographic in a way the existing members can't control there is going to be fear and pushback." This is the way I see it happening. It takes...
