For the 2nd time, the latch spring on my rear mech has 'bounced off' into undergrowth and I really don't want to spend another small fortune on a new rear mech for the sake of a small p**xy spring. I've managed to find a replacement but it doesn't have sufficient oompf to steer the derailleur...

Hmmmm - not the experience I've had with ST Unlocker I'm afraid - the app has shown a gradual deterioration in battery performance over the years and is currently sat at 80% which is pretty much where it's at in reality

Why ..........? The risk is absolutely the same as when a bike is wheeled on in person. The truth is, if you book a ticket as a 'pedestrian' cyclist, the question about electric bikes is not asked - at least not on the ferries I've used.

Taken mine across to Spain & France by ferry from UK numerous times without any issues - but then again, it was inside a campervan & no one asked.

Not sure what the problem is with sea travel but I take mine on Brittany Ferries every year with no problem - then again, no one asks!

Just a thought - have you contacted Madison directly about the problem? I had a 3yr old e8000 motor changed by writing directly to them after suffering continual e10 failures. The new motor also came with a new 2yr warrant so spot on Customer Service in my book.

Shimano / Madison (UK) will alter the wheel circumference via one of their dealers but they will need convincing that it's necessary due to the potential to circumvent the speed restriction (and to retain control of the aftermarket!). If you want to do it yourself - as Rich rides says -...

Think you'll find that Shimano are closing down most of the configuration options to the end user and to a lesser extent the same for bike shops. It seems that any parameters which could get around speed restrictions have to be managed by Madison in conjunction with the local Shimano Service...
