Cool set up. Good to know that it works. If it works on other motors, I might give that a try on a DU-E6100 setup with ST-Unlocker, as the SC-E6010 is my favourite screen (estimated battery percentage rather than "bars"). Time to do some research.
Agreed, it truly is a genius suggestion. I was excited about it until I realized that it's only helpful if you want to know the speed in miles. Those of us who think of speed in kilometres can't be helped by this. Dang. Maybe I'll set the circumference to exactly half of what it actually is...
Certain features require you to downgrade to firmware 4.3.2, for both eMax and STunlocker. I believe you pay the licence directly to the developer, not through the app store, but I used the PC version so can't personally attest to that.
If you're happy with just changing the wheel...
I've personally used eMax, and they're more expensive but they're as professional as it gets.
I have a co-worker who's used STunlocker, and it's much cheaper but with a corresponding reduction in customer service (this is not a slight, the author of STunlocker has acknowledged as much in these...
Shimano dealers can sell you the special cable. Bike shops can order it from Shimano, it has a retail price, and they are allowed to sell it. It's expensive, though.
Shimano warrants these batteries to have 60% of the original charge after 1000 cycles. The battery life you're suggesting is absolutely terrible. So much so, that you might be in a warranty situation after 1000 charges. So keep that in mind! You've got me curious enough to check my own...
Except the "fast charger" isn't charging that fast. For example, my 504 Wh Shimano battery is 14 Ah, and the faster charger is 4 amp. Dividing 4/14 gets you 0.286, so a charging rate of .29C when you round off. Anything under .50C is considered a relatively safe charging rate, with lower...
I think it's only for E8000 motors that you need to downgrade the firmware, and only if you want the display to show the correct speed (otherwise you can adjust the wheel circumference to fake it, on at least some of the more recent firmwares).
Can Steps Unlocker set different top speeds for...
It is a funny sort of question, but there's a method to my madness. I'm pretty fit, but nonetheless know I'll cover more ground in a day with an e-bike than without, even if I only use a low level of assist and/or only use it sparingly. :)
I have been selling e-bikes since 2005. Test rode various models over the years, but was never inspired to own one. Finally was inspired to purchase my first e-bike in 2019. Now I just feel foolish, I should have got one a long time ago. For me, it was trying a class 3 e-bike that finally...
I suppose terrain could play a role. If one is riding on the flat, reducing assist% might be the most efficient way to extend range. If one is climbing hills, perhaps reducing torque or wattage would be the most effective. I was hoping someone might have already tried, but if no one has I'll...
Yes, I'll be pedalling with vigour no matter the level of assist. :)
If I'm mostly climbing steep hills, then 25 to 32 km/h isn't much of a difference for me. When descending, there's absolutely no difference between the two either. Also on the flats it's not much of a difference as I can...
I want to do some hypermiling (ie. trying to get *very* long mileage on a single charge) on my e-bike. Ironically, my first act will be to use a derestricting tool (eMax) to reduce the top assisted speed down to 25 km/h. :)
Out of reducing the max torque, reducing the assist percentage, or...
I've never seen a dual-battery set-up with a Shimano motor, it doesn't seem to be something that Shimano has been targeting. A shame, as I'd be interested in an option like that.
