The problem is the design of the diode module, it´s just an schottky diode
It takes only a basic thermal test, let´s say 10Amps to check that those diodes overheat seriously
In Spain it´s already known, many peope affected by the same problem as you
My DU-E8000 is now 9200Km (5700 miles ) and it´s time for a new service
After 4500 Km (2800 miles) with PG75 grease it has performed with absolutely no problem
Water has been kept away of this motor
You can accidentally make a short with nickel fragments scattered around the workbench.
The tip of the pliers tends to break in this type of work. You don't want metal fragments falling on a LiIon battery
There is another risk, which is not usually discussed: breaking the battery case...

I have discharged mine (8010) in the lab, down to 28V with up to 6 amps and had no problem. It´s is still alive

You know! I had problems with my motor, had to repair it by myselfm but it´s now 1600 Km of playfullness and joy if ride...and much much less posting about Shimano in this and other forums...
The BMS-AFE is an standard chip from Texas Instrumets, it controls de secondary protection, the "fuse" you mention, as a last line of defense
May be for any reason, the BMS tripped an alarm and tirggered the fuse
What is more interesting is that the control circuit, the uC driven does not block...
It´s only possible with laboratory mesaruments directly on the battery using a dc load and datalogger.
Fortunately i have both, the lab and a new battery so in the next months i plan to start using it and tracking capacity on the lab vs life indicated on the Shimano Display

I don´t know the cause, but my feeling is that there is a lot of variability.
Some motors last 20.000+km, some fail before 3.000
Mine was donde with only 3500Km, and after 100km more had to replace all bearings, not only the ones on the pedal shaft, it was not a problem of water...
Yes could be an strain gauge one, but for me it´s strange because the ring magnet is too far from the fixed PCB. There is where the encoder should be for detecting the pedal stroke.

Here it is said that calibration parameters are saved on the main board uC o memory and that calibration probably is dependant on each particular sensor.
