Novel idea, keeping within class 1 and not pissing off land managers or creating more user conflict... The amount of power on tap before the update is already a ridiculous amount.
They can get the same out of the regular CX5 motor also. The R is just a tune. If you know someone they can install it on your CX5. You just won't have the magnesium housing and ceramic bearings.
Regulation is coming. For the entire bill click on the link below. Bosch is smart to stick with 750w. Here is a bill that CA is considering to take effect in 2027.
Cliff notes:
750w peak power max
16mph limit (which would suck)
Anything over those numbers makes it a moped and requires a...
There will be additional sliders to control power in the upcoming update as well for the Bosch CX5. I climb primarily in tour+, occasionally emtb, both at default levels and the power delivery is very smooth and predictable. My emtb+ mode I have maxed out on everything and that one kicks hard...
Even if it is reduced power it would be nice to have a little something above 20mph. I find it helps to be in a little lower of a gear in that scenario when hitting the non-assisted wall.
Yup, and it really doesn't use much power going DH. Maybe 1%. It's like having an awkward foot throttle. Haha! We do have some trails with techy bridges and log rides. For those I tone it down to tour+, then right back on the gas to emtb+!
If it is not upgraded to 900w, then the upgrade to 120nm won't do much in real world scenarios. Unless you are the type that just lets the pedals fall to propel you around. Most of the time I am climbing in tour+ mode to maximize range and only use emtb+ for DH to maximize acceleration out of...
