Don't find I need them on the emtb but on my 'normal' bike which I use for longer all day/multi day rides I've got the sq lab inner bar ends. These sit inside the grip rather than at the end. The big benefit is that you get a second hand position and can still use the brakes whilst using them...

Just by way of an update, I've decided to try a 170mm after a few rides in the standard spec. The 160mm is ok but between wanting to raise the front end a little bit and getting a stiffer fork, I have a new Zeb Ultimate going on it next week.
