I think that's correct. When I bought my first emtb about 5 years ago it had a bosch motor and I was told the range shown is an estimate based on the previous 2 miles. Maybe the latest motors use more data to estimate the range.

You're not being dense, Shimano don't want you to find this information so they removed it.

I think you have to unplug from the charger then switch it on and see what you've got.

Very happy with mine, great bike. Only complaint is the Shimano E8035 504Wh batteries. I've got two and both have lost capacity much faster than I would have expected. Definitely put a velcro strap around the battery cover, it'll probably come off.
