Thanks for the response Steve. I usually ride off piste trails in North Yorkshire and there's some pretty tasty stuff out there so this sounds interesting. Not too concerned about the battery, especially at this time of the year. All being well I should be ready to roll from the car park @ 10.

Hi Steve, What sort of elevation are you getting over the 17 miles. I've always thought of Pines as being too flat but never done any OP there.

Running a full cable internally only lasted a few rides before it started to get stiff so external is probably the only real other solution of you don't want to go Di2.

My understanding was that if the bat runs out then there is still enough power to change gears although I've not tested this yet. Just be aware of the reason I upgraded in the first place. The latest free version of STEPS Unlocker now allows me to change the bike from mechanical to Di2. Happy days!

As soon as I save it that's when it defaults back to mechanical. It's booked in for end of month now so fingers crossed they should be able to switch it.

The problem with the 800 is that the cable run from lever to mech is awful. It uses 3 sections of outer due to a badly designed cable path. From factory everything runs smoothly but once you need to replace the outers it's an absolute dog to get smooth shifting. And having to remove pedal arm...
