Obviously tires, surface etc... counts. From my readings Shimano and Specialized are focussed on selling light motors. Yamaha and RM and building motors for range and reliability but never say that it is a secret.

Other than hills and weight many factors count. Energy suckers might be suspension, tires, surface, bad habits, etc... The important is the real, not the estimate. I can stretch my 500Wh to 7 hrs or empty it in 3.

Well Steve i had a Specialized SWorks 2000, 27 speeds XT, it was running like new when i sold it a year ago. I still use the saddle and seatpost.
