Judging the proprietary plugs on the Exe and the charger wakeup nature, TQ may have implemented some sort of RAM on the BMS which if unpowered will essentially brick the board unless you can power it from another source while you swap out the cells. Bosch do this and other electric devices like Onewheel GT.
