Pic of the Day

@Greg Watts Perhaps you can help the non-scottish majority of forum members out on this. Don‘t feel sorry if not. Why should you be smarter than the rest of us here?! 😉

@Just gan quoted this in a local slang from Scotland (I assume). Do you have a translation into british english and can you make a conclusion on it please:

The Humble Tattie
Noo, some nicht fin yer idle, an ye’ve nithing else tae dae,
Jist ponder on the tattie, and its versatility,
For it’s been a staple diet throu a history-book o waars,
An it’s blessed wi mair equations than a chokit, kist-o-draa’ers!
Tatties for yer braakfist, yer denner an yer tay,
There’s nithing wrang wi tatties at ony time o day,
Ca them spud, or potato, or even pomme-de-terre,
A diet’s nae a diet unless the humble tattie’s there!

2: There’s battered eens, buttered eens, biled an barbecued,
An chippit eens an chappit eens, tho I’ve nivver tried them stewed!
There’s stovies an there’s shepherds’ pie, tae gar yer belly sag,
An even in a pyokie wi a wee blue bag!
Pink eens and yaller eens and reid fite an blue,
An files ye’ll get a mongrel o a questionable hue,
Fresh eens an frozen eens, an tatties big an sma,
An some that, fin ye haud them, well there's nithing there bit sha!

3: There's mealy lads, an soapy lads, an some that’s in-atween,
Late lads for liftin fin the early eens are deen,
Aul wizzent sprootit eens tae gie the soo a feed,
An aa the little tottems that are keepit back for seed!

4: There’s Golden Wonder, Craigneil, as weel as Sharp’s Express,
An poodert eens caad 'Smash' that they eat in ooter-space,
An thin skinned Cypress eens tae get ye throu the spring,
An muckle sappy English eens ye gey near need tae wring!
Lang lads roun lads, an kidney shaped as weel,
ither lads turnin green wi stickin oot the dreel,
Canary eens, an hairy eens, an some that’s black wi blight,
An every een the better o a twa three load o - dung!

5: Well, there’s Kerr’s Pink, British Queen, as weel as Duke o York,
An ither brands fit for maakin piggies intae pork,
An noo there’s Great British eens the market for tae tak,
An ithers that are champion for soup tae keep ye swaak!
So here’s tae the tattie, an lang may they swaal,
Herrin wi the new eens, an sized wi the aul,
The workin man’s caviare, steamin fae the pot,
There’s nae a veg that’s growin, bit the tattie beats the lot!
Well there's a first time for everything, goog luck Greg, especially with "chokit kist o drars"

Right then, @Arminius - Scots dialect translation incoming. This is Doric, the dialect from Aberdeenshire in northeast Scotland, arguably the most impenetrable variety of the language. Ian Middleton has written an ode to the potato, and it is genuinely magnificent.

Here's a verse-by-verse translation: Verse 1: "Now, some night when you're idle and have nothing else to do, just ponder on the potato and its versatility. It's been a staple diet through a history-book of wars, and it's blessed with more varieties than a chest of drawers full of chocolates. Potatoes for your breakfast, your dinner and your tea - there's nothing wrong with potatoes at any time of day. Call them spud, potato, or even pomme-de-terre - a diet's not a diet unless the humble potato's there."

Verse 2: "There's battered ones, buttered ones, boiled and barbecued, chipped ones and mashed ones, though I've never tried them stewed. There's stovies and shepherd's pie to make your belly sag, and even in a paper bag with a little blue bag of salt. Pink ones, yellow ones, red, white and blue - sometimes you'll get a mixed variety of questionable colour. Fresh ones, frozen ones, big ones and small - and some that when you hold them, there's nothing there but shell."

Verse 3: "There's floury ones, waxy ones, and some in between. Late ones for lifting when the early ones are done. Old wizened sprouted ones to feed the pig, and all the little tiny ones kept back for seed."
Great effort Greg

Now she's torturing me, I'm starving.

Okay, okay, you are a Mountainbiker living in France but isn‘t it even rude for you to put your wet gear on the bar? 😉 More important question for our dietary eMTB rider guidelines, what‘s that on her plate and…..is she having a 100gr Vodka because of you and your helmet?

Macaroni and sparkling water my guess. She's ready with the fork in case Zimm tries to steal a bit.

One of my favourite loops ..Innerleithen
Red up to Minch Moor ..drop to Southern Upland Way ..turn right and follow to Minch Moor Road for a fantastic drop down to Yarrowford..turn left onto the road and to the track at Broadmeadows that steeply climbs on the side of Foulshiels Hill and then turns to climb up to the Three Bretheren on the Southern Upland Way ..which you follow back to where you joined it from the Minch Moor descent to rejoin the Innerleithen Red Route ...
A great day out !

The road home (down in the valley directly ahead)

Hi to all, 12/4/26 was my last post feeling full of myself after a ride into Simonside hills post rib injury.
No longer riding as I’ve been advised in no uncertain terms by the Pysio to keep the bike in the shed for at least six weeks due to complications with my shoulder 😢
So I’m getting out courtesy of my walking boots.
The Queen Elizabeth II country park, part of the Ashington Community Woodland created when the colliery closed 40 odd years ago.

Seagull mating season our lums are full of loving couples. Noisy but we're used to that ,it's when they start swooping in a couple months it gets scary.

You may not think this pic has anything to do with mountain biking ..but you would be wrong the sun is setting directly behind Deadwater Fell , Kielder part of the Black/ Red trail network 20 miles up the road and visible from my kitchen / garden ...and a constant inspiration to get out and ride when my mojo is a little bit lacking 😁
