Hi all!

Does anyone have experience replacing a bushing mounted shock with a bearing mounted one?

I've found a Fox Float DPX that should be a decent upgrade from the stock shock on my non-ebike ('21 Norco Fluid FS). The Fox shock uses a bearing mount rather than a bush though. From the limited info I've found this should fit the 8x30 mount on my linkage? The bearing mount should also be be a nice upgrade I believe? There does seem to be quite a bit of rotation at the linkage mount on this bike which is where the bearing will be as the shock is mounted upside down.

Thanks in advance!

My experience is FOX bearing mounts wasn't great... the bearing cups eventually creaked. Whether the bearing is an advantage depends on how much the hardware rotates... I ended up replacing the FOX bearing with a RWC needle bearing kit and the creek never returned.

Whereas Rockshox, the bearing mount is bolted as an assembly to the shock body and I didn't have issues with creaking.

I'd run it and if it creaked, replace the stock bearing with the likes or RWC or Enduro I believe also makes a kit.

As long as the width between the two mounts and bolt hole size are the same- it should work pretty well. The comments about squeaking are not all wrong. I found when installing these type for my customers I use a film of heavy wheel bearing grease or like betwen the bearing and the little cover, that is usually where the noise comes from . OR- you can just swap over the mount hardware from the X-Fusion, then toss it in the trash. That Fox is a big upgrade already!

Many thanks all.
I found an unused take-off unit for a price I couldn't refuse. Small bump sensitivity is dramatically improved & it seems to handle harder hits better too. So far no creaking, bit time will tell, I did add a small bit of grease between bearing & cover as suggested. The only issue now is do I replace the decals so they are the correct way up? 🙃IMG_20260507_205343299.webp
