What did you do to your EBike this week?

After going to peatys bike bonanza last week wanting some radial Albert or shredder tyres
Not one radial in sight so ended off getting Albert radial gravity from tredz
Hope to test it this weekend after running dhr2 for last couple weeks with no tread and slipping all owa the place

Combined with MM racial on the front should be a great combo

Tacky chan for the rear

IMG_20251115_153329.jpg

Ran over a bunch of thorns (desert life) that gave me a flat rear tire, so I refreshed the sealant. Was having difficulty getting the bead to set with my pocket compressor, and CO2 cartridges, so I went over to Home Depot and grabbed the smallest pancake compressor they sell, and a hose/connector kit. Came out to $97 with tax. Works great and is less expensive than some chambered hand pumps.

today I.....

rode my Norco @ BPW

first ride with 50mm rise Oneup Carbon handlebars and I've just finished fitting the 'Rockeater' tune (modified pistons and shimpacks imported from Shockcraft in NZ) in the Dorado forks so suspension setup time🙃

usual pedalup then warmup run down Wibbly Wobbly (red tech) and binned it:ROFLMAO:

clipped a tree with the left handlebar grip amd ended up on my right side in the trash:rolleyes:

so, bars and helmet condemned as they're carbonfiber and you can't predict their future & failure 🤷‍♂️

3.5 miles pedalup & desent cost a few £££££'s but heyho

ps. suspension is great

I bought new sit of tires for my second wheelset. Lighter and easier rolling tires for longer explorations. And a cassette, that’s next on the list, also for the second wheelset.

Yeah well could be worse is the way I look at days like that.

exactly, learnt not to use 'strava' lines and stay away from scenery :ROFLMAO:

now looking at better body armour as my Alpinestars suit has no side / kidney area coverage and guess where I recieved gravity's impct notice:rolleyes:

TLD's Stage Ghost D30 is looking favourite

Trails around me are very sloppy, so went with Argotal Enduro casing supersoft front, soft rear.
Also 'downgraded' drivetrain to 10speed linkglide because it's cheaper and I eat through drivetrains with the avinox

I posted this in the Pic of the Day thread but I’ll share here too.
I’m from the northeast (NY-metro) and recently moved to Scottsdale Arizona. When I bought my Levo 4 I immediately wanted to change the tires so I asked a LBS what they recommend for the dry, rocky conditions here. They sold me Continental Kryptotal enduro 2.6 in soft. I’ve noticed that they’ll be okay when I’m riding aggressively, but are quite slippery in the corners. This inspired me to buy a set of Maxxis Assegai DH MaxxGrip 2.5s. WHAT AN AMAZING IMPROVEMENT. These have so much more grip they are quite literally a game changer. This is the grip and feel I’ve been looking for! Very happy.

10sp Linkglide is the best 'downgrade' you can do imho (with the 11spd XT shifter). Did you go 11-43 or 11-48? Takes a few hours riding to bed in and become 'slick' (or at least mind did), then it becomes super slick and precise. And use an oil based lube on the chain as if it's the LG CN500 they rust like crazy, minimal if any anti corrosion plating but a long life. Might as well ask, how's the tyres?

I think I copied you from the other thread. Yes have the 11sp XT shifter and 43T, genuinely never used the 1st or 2nd gear of the old sram t type cassette so figured I could go smaller.

Early to tell from the tyres, they bite into the mud and clear better than assegai/dhr2 but that could be new vs old tyres. Seems like most of the praise for conti's is for DH super soft, I bought these a while ago just getting round to fitting so maybe should have gone with that. Apparently the conti softs are harder than maxxis maxxterra.

Yeh I went 11-43 for exactly the same reason, and never missed not having the larger cogs......it's an emtb after all with way more torque than your legs can put out, surplus to requirements.

I agree with the Assegai as a front tyre, brilliant. But I find it very draggy on the rear. I tried a Maxxis Aggressor (allegedly the best mtb rear tyre in a survey* of 27 tyres), but it didn't suit me, kept spinning out. The second best rear tyre on overall score was a WBT Trail Boss. Dive into the data and it only came second because it was harder to fit than the Maxxis tyre, but it scored higher on rear wheel performance. I only fit them two or three times in their lifetime, so I opted for the better performing tyre because I experience that a lot. I have the WTB TCS Fast (fast rolling) TriTec E25 (E25 supposed to be stronger for emtbs). It's a triple compound case with a nylon slash guard. They come in a variety of weights. Recommended. :)

I’m not yet convinced draggy is a big enough issue to prompt change on an eMTB. Maybe my viewpoint will evolve, but draggy seems like a secondary or tertiary consideration might now.

Heading out for my first post plague ride & the drivetrain was all over the place, chain skipping in every gear, practically no drive. I must havr got all of fifty metres before being forced back to the pits & diagnosing a sticking lower cage.

So, I ended up doing a full derailleur strip & rebuild, including robbing the cage spring & seal from an old mech I had lying around.

Ooh, that's ugly 😲

There is a design flaw in those, the inner cage plate acts as a cover for the spring cavity but the hole in the plate for the hook on the end of the spring lets water in & eventually you end up with the mess above.

I stripped out my rear derailleur hanger. Didn’t know it was reverse threaded - lesson learned. Bought an aftermarket machined aluminum replacement from Wheels Manufacturing. I believe it’s called the Dropout 487. Red in color. Also had the wheels converted to tubeless. Will drop tire pressure from 28psi to 21psi.

Finally got around to fitting the internal cable routing conversion. No more cables pointlessly through the inside of the bearings????

Don't know if it shows up in the picture but a skipping chain in the bottom two gears that take the most hammer needed sorting, so two new sprockets fitted & the cassette lives again. This is something I really like about Shimano, replaceable sprockets really do extend the life of a cassette.

A RockShox or RockBros (?)balaclava.IMG_1007.jpeg
Better, warmer and cheaper than the old one.
