Hi all,

newbie to e-Bike ownership and for my first bike I decided to go for an Amflow PL and got one in the early batch in Dec.

Have been hanging my nose over a number of e-bikes the last 5 or 6 years and ridden a bunch over the last decade, but never crossed the line from analogue to electric ownership until now. Why the Amflow? I think I liked the idea that its a bit of disruptor to the market and the torque/power available coupled with the light-ish weight means I can have some real fun up technical ascents which adds another dimension (and fun).

Still getting to grips with the trade-offs of range and power. The original firmware was a bit disappointing on range, but the latest upgrade allows me to tweak the modes really well and now I can get the range to do some all days epic rides. Still unsure where the e-bike fits into my riding schedule, or if the Amflow is really the right bike for me; but for now its grin-inducing, so that's the whole point isn't it? I probably shouldn't over-think it.

Find it strange that there is a lot of hate out there on socials for the bike, but I guess that's because there is a lot of hype around it and I think people don't like having hyper shoved in their faces all the time. Joined this forum as I'm hoping its a bit of a calmer place and looking forwards to sharing experiences and also getting advice from others.

I actually haven't run into those reactions, but maybe not hitting the right sources. Were these people that just gave a quick spin on it or actually own it? Just curious what the main hate is? thx.

Definitely a market "disruptor" with that spec which is possibly the reason for any negativity, but looks like a great buy capable of handling anything an average rider is capable of riding. If they brought out a belt-drive version with integrated MGU they'd dominate the market.

Some of the negative FB comments are definitely coming from shill accounts but there's still some folk out there that will deliberately join closed groups just to trash-talk a given brand. Takes all sorts to make a world....

Not a lot matters other than the ownership experience, and that's working out pretty well for most of us. Welcome to the site. :)

Welcome.
After riding mostly on my SL, when I go out on the full power (90nm) bike it feels very easy. But then I can get up stuff that I otherwise would struggle on.
A 120nm boost button must be fun.
Looking forward to hearing how you get on.

From Steam bike to Amflow that is quite the jump, be careful not to drive your bike up a tree… 😄
Welcome and enjoy!

lol!

Yeah, I'd been hanging my nose over SL bikes the last few years and thought I would get something like a Rise or Levo SL but never really felt the need to pull the trigger. When I first heard about the DJI motor, it sounded interesting and a bit "different". Having ridden quite a few "full power" bikes over the years, they had always been fun but I really didn't like the added weight. Given the size of battery and the added power/torque of the motor, I felt it added another element that tipped the scales to buying one.

To be fair, I've really used Turbo mode yet! So far, I've set the Eco mode to be roughly the same as my brothers Levo SL and the Trail mode to roughly the same as Turbo Levo that some other friend have; so that allows me to be a bit more sociable when riding with them. Otherwise I found myself just pissing off into the distance and waiting for them all to catch up! (fun once or twice, but not that useful).

when riding by myself, I've set the Auto mode to just give a quite linear 1-to-1 assist, so just doubling whatever effort I put in. I've found that riding a mix of eco (power limited) and auto (power doubling) is really fun - still getting a work out, but also feeling super-human but totally in control. In fact for me, I find the best aspect of the DJI motor is the quality of the motor control which is probably in part due to the high resolution speed sensor. Whilst other high power e-bikes I've felt a bit like a passenger at times, the DJI motor makes it feel more like an extension of my efforts.

I'm looking forwards to really using the Turbo power for doing some crazy technical climbs; but the weather is just so wet and icy that I'm just traction and technique limited for now. Roll on some dry UK weather!
