Would like to know the following please for estep 8000:
Note: I have got a version on my laptop but I'm sure it is a demo from ST (ST Unlocker )
  1. Where and how do I properly install ST unlocker
  2. Do I need a license and where do I get it
  3. What interfaces do I need and cables
  4. Does it work with the latest shimano 4.7.1 FW
  5. Is it best to just change destination US
  6. Would like a clear step by step tutorial from install of interface cables to setting changes. 4.7.1 FW
  7. You tube videos give info in bits but not a complete set up.
Had the peartune installed but doesn't work now with error code appearing regularly and don't want to downgrade FW. I really need some extra kmph for the big gap jumps having had some really close calls when motors cut's out, the law currently is ridiculous when considering road bikes chuff away at 50kmph. I have been footering away with all sorts but I don't want to brick the motor. Looking for a definitive solution from any specialists out there . Cheers

The link you have included takes you to a PDF with instructions on installation, versions and answers your questions.

5. Yes . Easiest and safest. If you then need faster still you can reduce your wheel circumference, but at the expense of your speedo being incorrect.

7. It's pretty straight forward... Install .. connect .. click request licence from the menu if you want to upgrade so you can change to US. Wait for e-mail with licence . click . viola.

doesn't work now with error code appearing regularly
Error code on the bike ?? or in the software ?? If the error code is on the bike there might be another problem actually with the bike, wheel sensor for instance.

Go to www.stunlocker.com

1. Read the manual for the app version (link is on the website), PC version is no longer supported (it even clearly says this on the website)

2. No unless you want the extra features, again read the manual.

3. See #1.

4. See #3

5. It's best to see #4.

6. #5 has it.

7. Try #6.

If you're going to use STUnlocker (or any other app) get rid of the peartune, you shouldn't use two different modifiers at the same time.

If you have more questions (after reading the manual) ask one of the "official" STUnlocker threads here:

iOS App for Shimano motors is available
Android App for Shimano motors is available

Quick Point: just purchased it for Android and not tried it yet, download was fine. Was looking at some you tube demos....do you have to adjust by percentages in eco, trail and boost or can I just make changes to US 32KMPH and reduce wheel size.
You just change region to us and that applies to all assistance modes . Same with wheel size

Seens as we're on a roll, from what I remember - change it to US spec. Change the wheel size to 62% of what it really is. Change it to read in KM's instead of MPH. Then the speed displayed will be the correct speed in mph, even though it says kph.. (because you reduced the wheel size to 62%)

Indeed since we are on a roll, Will I have to reset eco, trail and boost settings back to standard as I changed them with the shimano app to a more dynamic set up...or...will the ST app return settings to standard before changing to US and 62% wheel size and by that you mean reducing wheel size by 38% which is a lot. They are 650b wheels.
The settings you've changed for eco trail boost won't affect the speed restriction. You can continue to adjust them in stunlocker or etube to how you like them. They just control how much assistance you receive. Keep in mind that trail is dynamic, so no matter what you set it to, it will auto adjust as you ride anyway.

You just change the wheel size setting, this tricks it into thinking you are going slower than you are.

Yeah once you start changing settings with STUnlocker, don't connect E-Tube to your e-bike. Just stick to using STUnlocker exclusively, the same adjustments are there (albeit with more control).

Really...?
So Trail will max out at 70Nm and 300%...it''s not the case on my bike (Focus Jam2)

It is on mine. I'm on 4.7.1 right now and I have TRAIL set at 60/250%, and I basically just leave it there and let the dynamic function handle assist level for me. I rarely use ECO or BOOST anymore.

I have trail at 50Nm/100%...which is definately not equal to 70Nm/300%.
So the trail setting does matter :)
Also...I don't use eco/boost any more.

On my Decoy boost is set 70NM/300% and feels artificial, like a big surge at first but once gaining speed is indistinguishable from Trail. I've never found a real need for it where I ride normally. I'm sure on a super steep with an abrupt transition I might want it.

Was thinking of setting Boost to Trail setting (90%/70NM), leaving Eco as-is (60%/30NM) and making Trail an in between setting.

Anyone experimented with similar? Motivation is to stretch out battery more.

Links don't work for email and very vague i.e. (none) about costs of license. Couple of other chaps I have found out have had the same issues. Me thinks that all is not as it would appear.

Licence is €30 then €1 for every kph you travel over 25kph per km. So if you do 50kph for 1km - it's €25 euro's . I think it's pretty reasonable :) If you do over 1000km's at over 50kph, you get 10% cash back.

It recently changed from steps unlocker to stunlocker due to objections from Shimano, so @vadII has had to setup the app links and new websites as everything was taken away, so there's probably some teething problems and connection bugs to work out.

Which e-mail address link doesn't work ? If you say, they can fix it.

I think the manual actually covers all of your questions and answers quite concisely. @raine spent an enormous amount of time piecing it together and adapting it based on problems people have had. Understandably, he gets a bit tetchy when people ask the same repeated questions when he's gone to the effort of making a manual for everyone, so that no one has to stumble through.

As for connections, I've always found it connects considerably easier and quicker than e-tube. It was suggested that you should run e-tube at the same time. If you have that running, even in the background, then stunlocker won't work because e-tube will have the bluetooth connection.

As @raine said, if you continued to have problems you should really raise them in the iOS or android thread for the app, you're more likely to get the help you need and possibly find the answer sitting there waiting for you.

If you don't trust the app for whatever reason, don't use it, there are others.

Who said it doesn't matter?

Trail setting will max out at what you set it at, be it 50Nm/100% or 70Nm/300% or 1Nm/1%. What @Zimmerframe was trying to explain to you is that TRAIL will dynamically ramp up from 0Nm/0% assist to the maximum setting, unlike ECO or BOOST where when the assist kicks in, it's at maximum already.

Hi Kendo, sorry , my reply was a bit sarcastic and crap .. been a long day and need a beer :)

If you're on Android then right swipe, right press, whatever it is on your phone to show the running apps, then click on the "X" to close e-tube if it's running. Not sure how you do it on an iPhone. Or just re-boot the phone. Make sure you're not near other bluetooth devices when you do it as they're all on 2.4ghz and it can interfere, like wifi, microwaves, wireless security cameras and so on ..

If you're still having problems then check the manual, it covers the various other bluetooth problems that can be encountered and how to get around them.

It really is pretty straight forward and normally connects easily. If you click apply for licence, you'll get an e-mail from vadll pretty much persuading you not to buy a licence. But if you do, how much it costs and so on, it doesn't just zap your money away.

How about you post a screenshot of what you are actually seeing in the app so we can see what the possible problem is.

I did explain it pretty crapply though ! :)

oh, wow, this is good info. So it charges you over time?

ie, in the example above, if you did 50kph for 2km, it would charge you 50 euros?

That's correct :) ..

Not really, I was being facetious . Still, it would stop anyone wanting to ride over 25kph ! :)

It's actually just the fixed €30. I don't have an E8000 anymore, but when I did I found the app really useful for just changing the settings as e-tube was always a pig to connect and at the time you couldn't configure "eco". You can quite easily change lots of other things too which helps to either extend your range or either make things harder if you want it more physical or easier if you don't.

ok, phew. That would have put me off for sure!
