Swapped E7000 for E8000, but wont turn on

My bike has been in for a warranty claim on the motor for the last month, and was told the other day the new one won't arrive for at least another month. Someone I know bought them selves a spare E8000 (new) motor off of ebay recently, and offered it to me to tide me over.

I've just tried fitting it, but when I go to turn it on, the display lights up for a second and then turns off. It's as if the motor isn't connected (I've cleaned the connectors). Tried charging the battery for a couple of mins unless it had gone to sleep, and also removing and refitting the battery but no change.

Any ideas?

Check cables for display, assistance switch and and speed sensor.

You'll have to configure motor angle and wheel diameter in the LBS.

The displays are different You might have to use the e8000 display A friend of mine wanted to put a E8000 display on his E 7000 and it would not work

Thanks. My understanding is that the E8000 display only works with the 8000 motor, but the SC7000 display works with both the 8000 and 7000 motors.

Thanks. My understanding is that the E8000 display only works with the 8000 motor, but the SC7000 display works with both the 8000 and 7000 motors.

Motors DU-E8000 and DU-E7000 can use both displays SC-E8000 and SC-E7000

But Motor DU-EP800 can use only SC-E7000 (With cable adapters) but not SC-E8000 (Also can use SC-EM800 without cable adapters)

As an update, I tried it with 2 E8000 motors and neither would turn on. I managed to connect to the display (via Bluetooth) by plugging the charger into the bike which then powered the remote switch and screen. I could see the serial number of the motor, so don't think there was a connection issue on that side.

The bike shop has just installed the replacement E7000 unit with no problems, so don't think there is an issue with the cabling / connectors on the battery side.

Which leads me to the conclusion the motor wasn't asking the battery to power on for some reason. I can only think there was something not right in the firmware? I think ive read on other threads on here others have had to update the firmware on a new motor to make it work?

I'm tempted to buy a plug in shimano box to see if I can get it to work that way. Otherwise I may have a useless motor on my hands!

A sc e-7000 worked for me on the original eu 8000 but not on the one I just got from Germany which is running 4.5.5 software from memory. The bike works, just no display.

This could be the reason, some motors DU-E8000 from Germany are at an old FW level, but DU-E8000 motor got the support for display SC-E7000 with FW 4.7.1, which was released on 2 Sept 2019.

So if motor DU-E8000 is at a lower FW level, then SC-E7000 won't work.

Thats very useful, thanks. I never did get it working. The new motor arrived before, and although I've been meaning to have a play, I've prioritised riding over stripping it down! I have now got the shimano PCIE interface and was planning on installing the motor and updating all the firmware at some point to see if that solved it, which hopefully it will.

A job for a rainy weekend I think.

The guy from Germany sells the E8000 display witch is much nicer

No... The 7000 black and white display is garb and won't work with the E8000 motor There the same size butt the newer nicer one is for the E8000 motors. Why would you want the old school one

You need to do some research mate, the latest 7000 was brought specifically for emtb as it is more compact and therefore less likely to be written off in a crash. And once again they do work with the 8000 because ive had one.

They must be different on your side of the world We don't have any E7000 Shimano's anymore here.

Either way, I did buy a E8000 display and that didn't work either.

I also didn't like the fact it was larger than the 8000, although I never rode with it.
