Hiya I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix the problem I have with my XT derailler clutch. Basically it won't stay in the on position and when riding over rocky stuff it moves half open. Once it moves it mucks up my gear set up!

I have opened the cover and taken the mechanism out and tried adjusting it but to no avail!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers ?

Do you push it all the way over in the "On" position? On my XTR there is kind of like a resistance spot just before it reach the fully "On" position. If you cannot feel the resistance point I think that your clutch have gone haywire unfortunately.

Doesn’t sound right , the clutch is adjusted with an Allen key via the little rubber covered hole in the side , if you’ve taken it apart there could be something missing maybe ? Sorry that’s not helping much , I usually only hear the clutch is too tight and the gears won’t shift down easily , so perhaps yours wasn’t tight enough which was causing the problem .
Does it still prevent you pushing the mech forward when the clutch is on ?

Before taking it apart the clutch wouldn't say in the open position. The screw to adjust tension works and adds or release tension on the mech. When I tightened the screw the clutch wouldn't stay at all in the open position. When slackened it would stay there but move once riding. I tried the correct torque around 3-4ish.

I took the cam out and put back with the same parts, there isn't much to it, but still not working but the screw still does it job!

Check with Shimano technical documents to compare the exploded view to see if all the parts are present and that it is assembled in the correct order.

The link below should open at XT rear derailleur, exploded views only. I'm sure you can do the rest! :)
Manuals & Technical Documents

Cheers for that, I have found the correct doc which is very useful. I will try and sort it out tomorrow. Cheers again ?
