• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Hi all,
I am looking for a new ride with the new CX motor in it.
But Would want to derestrict it.
Cant find any info, so any help in the good direction would be great.

Thanx Ron

I thought the new 2020cx was designed to stop all attempts to derestrict it. Maybe there will be a magic add-on box in the future but i don’t think it’s been invented yet.

Does the new Bosch motor uses GPS to compare the actual speed with the speed registered by the magnet? If not I guess the mechanical LSS that jd_3d could work.

AIUI, you can’t use the old magnet on the crank method as it matches the cadence to the pulses and errors out. Three errors and it’s a trip to the dealer to get it unlocked.

I know that, I was pointing out that the old method probably won’t work.

The LSS solution is probably the best bet if the magnet is on the disc. If it’s on the spokes it may be a lot harder to get the sensor lined up.

I been following this thread on endless-sphere, a guy as has got a VESC controller running with his bosch motor. A VESC is an open source fully programmable controller. Looks like he got it working with pedal assist and throttle. Perhaps someone could commercialise this?

Bosch mid drive with vesc controller - Endless Sphere
thats not a cx motor though.... and defo not the new cx 2020

I can say from my experience of the new Bosch motor..... you won't need to de-restrict it as the new motor completely disengages and there is no noticable drag and rides like a normal bike.

If you still want power after 25kmph ... then as always there will be a way.

Can confirm that it is now possible to derestrict the new Gen4 motor with the Speedbox 3.0. Tried mine yesterday, only up to 60 km/h though. Should give assist up to 99 km/h.
Haven't done a long ride yet as well, so might wanna wait for that to confirm it works 100%.

That’s quite fast. Was it on a flat road?

What Bosch Gen4 equiuped bike have you fitted on?
What display does your bike have?
How easy is the set-up and activation?
Any waiting at the end of a ride to allow for the computer/electronics to make calculations?
Cheers

A Whyte E-150 with a Purion display.
Installation takes 2 minutes.
Yes, you should wait with turning off the bike according to the instructions.

Wonder (hypothetically speaking) if an average Sunday cyclist on a road bike in Lycra would still race past you on the flat or would the tables now be turned

Got the speedbox 3 fitted on my cube..
Only big smiles on my face when I blast through the trees at high speeds.
Works like a charm.

How I feel when I hit the 15.5mph limit on a Bosch Gen2 can only be summed up in pictures not words....

I found that the old motor tailed off from 15.5 to about 17mph and then was in full on treacle mode. The 2020 CX stops assisting dead on 15.5mph but is less treacle-like over the limit.
