Read a bit on using 11 speed chain on 10 speed. Yes side plate is a bit thinner. Some people claimed or theorized that the 11 speed chain was more flexible and good for big gear ranges.....maybe....
As for medium vs long cage m8000 I must disagree. Ive run 2x 11 Shimano for years before I went 1x 12 on both my acoustics. Sgs for 2 by 34/24 front 11- 42 rear or 1x 11-46... I tried medium once and promptly destroyed the derailleur. All the chains seem to be I. The $25 range. No 10 ers I see. Not in usa.

So here's a tiny bit of ex1 and it's successor follow up. I left it with I ha e about 5k km on my 2018 commencal meta power ex1 ...put new jockey wheels.and smallest 3 cogs on and it's still working. In the mean time I have in my possessions :
1. 10 speed deore metal 11-46 cassette
2. Both a new Shimano Shimano 10.speed shifter and now a 10.speed sram gx shifter
3. 11 speed xt chain and coming a KTM ( I think that's the brand) 10.speed chain
4. An 11 speed m8000 sgs derailleur.

For my first try when I need a new cassette I'm thinking of using the deore cassette , the ktm chain , the existing ex1 derailleur and the sram.10.speed shifter . The theory being that the ex1 spacing is in actuality 10.speed and perhaps the sram 10.speed shifter will work on the ex 1 derailleur .. this I really don't know if true. But eventually I will find out. Anyone out there try this ?
