Been a mountain bike rider for over 20 years, ridden and raced all over the world in my younger years (thanks in no small part to being both the best and worst, and only, rider in the British Army mtb team for several years) and been a decrier of e-mtb's for several years.
What do these middle aged johnny-come-latelies know about PROPER mountain biking? E-mtbs are too heavy, too slow, all they're missing is a blue badge, etc.
Then a few weeks ago I was at Bike Park Wales with a load of mates and one of them had hired a couple of Trek e-mtb's for some customers of his to have a jolly on and they'd bailed so the bikes were free for anyone who wanted to have a go.
Yeah, says I, I'll have a go and confirm what I've been telling you all along. I'll do one run and then hand it back and get my Jeffsy out the van and normality will resume.
Instead, after one run it was SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY, THIS IS F***ING INCREDIBLE!!!!
Spent the whole day on the e-mtb and by the end of the day I was set on getting one. Within days both my HT and full susser clockwork bike were sold and I'd bought an ex demo Trek Powerfly FS 9 LT from Bike Park Wales.
Made a few mods to it and having a ball riding, as much fun going up as coming down.
I'm very lucky to live on the edge of the Peak District so have been out and about, learning how far you can get on a battery and the nuances of riding an e-mtb.
Cleaned the Slabs first go...
Also managed to fit a couple of hours in on Dartmoor on Monday as I had some time free between meetings in Bideford and Plymouth. The Widowmaker, near Prince Town, was just awesome going up as rattling down...
