Hi all - I’m new to the group and am a turbo levo rider. I’m having battery issues - the bike won’t turn on and the battery is showing a single flashing light (third light up)when plugged in but the power unit is showing green (it’s charged) . I’d charged and checked it one day and it was showing full battery , tried to turn it on the next day and nothing . Had the battery out and cleaning terminals etc. But still nothing. Can anyone help please ?

That's a weird one and it's not mentioned in the owners manual. I think a trip to your LBS is called for

I have the same issue with my 2021 Levo Comp. LBS determined it is a bad battery and Specialized is replacing under warranty. Battery is scheduled to arrive at LBS in 4 days (17 days after replacement approved. I'm in Northern California). We will see if a new battery fixes the issue. BTW LBS would not loan me a battery to keep me riding while the replacement is in transit. Some of the better LBS do that for their customers.

This is such a coincidence. I've got a 2021 Turbo Levo, was working fine just a few days ago. Took it to my LBS today for the bike's first service since purchase - they tried to turn it on, and it was dead. No lights on the TCU. They initlaly thought the battery was completely flat, but last I looked (a few days ago) it was 80%. They plug in the charger, and only the 3rd green LED from the bottom up was flashing.

While they were trying to work out what the problem was, Google found this very thread, and also this post from 2019

The exact same issue.

LBS calls Specialized support, and I heard something about "battery low voltage" and the fix is to replace the battery. Luckily my LBS had a brand new battery in stock and they just swapped it.

So after only a few weeks of ownership, I'm on my 2nd battery. Mass kudos to my LBS who just swapped the battery without a single hesitation. I'd still love to know what the actual reason is for the 3rd blinking LED - if the battery has dropped a cell, water ingress or whatever.

I had the exact same issue on my 2 1/2 week old Levo Comp. Mine took 3 weeks to replace :-( Got it back this afternoon, so fingers crossed.

Recently had this, on and off, for months. Most recently it was fine for a whole month then started playing up again. It comes and goes on its own, independent of whether you have ridden it or not. New battery and so far so good. But - confidence in it turning on has been hit hard.

Have you seen this ?

I dont understand at all how a battery fault can come and go like that!

Ahh thanks a lot! I was looking for that when I was waiting in the bike shop. They didn't know what the 3rd flashing LED was, and I said that I had seen somewhere what the different flashing LED's meant; and that's when I started searching and found the eMTB thread I posted (and this one). I couldn't remember exactly where I had seen it, so that's when they called Specialized support.

But cheers - that is the exact post I was looking for, and now I've saved the pic.

LBS told me that those lights can be misleading. They did go off and have various other bits replaced, TCU, power cable, and rerouting some cables which were a bit pinched. They did a diagnostic on the battery in the shop with some machine they have there and it came back fine.

In the end it worked fine for a month, then I left the bike in the car for a few hours at work on a hot day. This then seemed to make it go crazy, and it was mostly not working. did have 1 ride on it even after that though when it was in a good mood.

At that point I was quite keen on the battery being replaced. Luckily it had the fault when I turned up at the shop (usually it works when I took it there!) New battery then fixed the issue. For now!

Really hope it doesnt come back, there isn't much left to change as I had a new motor as well recently due to clutch failure.

So far I've had:

battery
front fork
rear shock
TCU
power cable
motor
hub bearings
headset bearings
jockey wheels
derailleur (broke when the above seized)
front tyre (my fault)
rear wheel (my fault)
cassette/chain (worn)

not bad going for 9 months old!

Do you think excessive heat had an issue in initially causing the issue?

We're only just coming out of our winter here in Australia, but my Levo Comp sits in the shed at the back of my property. During winter (remembering...our winters are like UK summers), the temp inside the shed can get to 30-35C - which it probably did earlier this week because we had a couple of warmer days as Spring is starting to roll around.

But to me....surely the battery could survive 30-35C. If it can't survive that, then this has no hope during an Australian summer.

30C is nothing really for electrical stuff. I found a website that calculated my car prob got to 55 degrees inside. This is still within the battery specs, but does seem curious the fault reoccurred straight after. I don’t think the fault was initially caused by heat no, it’s rarely hot enough in the uk, and I almost never leave the bike in the car for any length of time

Almost exactly the same - prob 4 charge cycles, 700 battery...was 100% charged and then died completely 5 mins into a ride...only sign of life is the 3rd green flasher when plugged in....

Got mine back from Tredz - 6 weeks to
Get sorted ?. It was a couple of dead cells in the battery, specialised swapped the battery under warranty. Gutted it took so long and I had to send the whole bike back even though it was clearly a battery issue. Anyway - sorted now.

2 months later, and no further problems. In fact its been very quiet warranty wise... almost too quiet!

Sooo... I was just cleaning my chain to go for a ride tomorrow. Went for a couple last week, and now I have the 'third flashing light' and it won't even turn on. It did it last week too and I managed to take the battery out, double check contacts were clear and put it back in, but it seems that was just luck as it won't turn on at all right now! Super disappointed.

It eventually turned on after 3 hours of trying, but it shouldn’t be that way, so I am going to bring it back to the shop anyway. Its the 2021 model, just 2 months old!

Just to let you know that as of today I also have the third light blinking on my battery. My bike is a 2021 Levo S Works and just 4 weeks old. My LBS will claim with Specialized and have it replaced. Surprised to see this issue popping up so frequently.

Specialized have authorised a new battery and it's supposed to be on the way to LBS...but now been told it is delayed due to supply issues. Seriously unimpressed.

Well I can add myself to the list. I have 1,100 miles on mine and it's been flawless. I just replaced the chain and cassette and that's literally all I have done (besides rear tires...that's another story.)

My story is similar with the one blinking light when attempting to charge.

The thing about mine that I don't think anyone mentioned is that I had the battery out (because it's winter here.) I do that when it's below 50 in the garage. It was fully charged. I put it in and hooked it up. When I did, I heard the beep and the downtube display came on. I noted this because it was odd. Usually you have to turn it on by hand with the downtube button. Everything LOOKED okay. Blue bars were at 100% etc. Had it ridden it then I think it would have been fine. But, I turned it off to continue getting ready and when I came back it would not turn on. I checked the connection. All was good and clean. I attempted to charge and got the one blinking green light.

It's at the LBS now.

Thing is that only a day or so on my last ride the app still showed 100% battery health and it was working perfectly as it has for 1,100 miles.

Warranty battery approved and on the way. I'm asking for any details I can get but sounds like a common issue. Specialized is standing behind their product at any rate so I'm happy.

The only thought I have is that I am here in Colorado. I have been riding it in the snow (which is a BLAST!) but I transport it to and from the trails inside my car...the entire bike. So it's either being used when in the cold or inside a warm car. I always figured the battery probably generated enough heat that while in use it should not be an issue. During my snow rides it's performed flawlessly and I didn't even notice any loss of power or range. Once home I was charging it in the garage...sometimes maybe 40 degrees or so and then taking it out and bringing it into the house (I do this anytime it gets below 50 degrees or so in the garage.) Maybe I should be charging it in the house too? Maybe charging it in 40 degrees or so was not good? IDK...just thinking out loud. Again, up until this happened the app even was saying 100% battery health.

Update. New battery came within a week. Apparently there was also a firmware update which the LBS did. Back up and running! Also...the new battery came with a new battery rock guard which was sweet as mine was cracked and this is a $60 part! Go Specialized! Looking at 2021's for my son and wife!
