Hi guys, hoping for a bit of help as i don't want to waste time/money ordering the wrong bit.

In order to install the volspeed in this bike it seems like the crank arm has to come off to get the motor cover off. The cap is 8mm but the part after that is alien to me and i was hoping someone would know the correct tool to get this off so i can get on with the work. e180 rs v2, had a quick look into the manuals but couldn't find it.

Cheers.

Also planned to clear out any dirt that had accumulated around the motor whilst doing the work

Evans workshop reckoned it was pass through like the 160 you described but it doesn't appear to be that way.

I've ordered the tool as I don't fancy trying to wiggle the cover about

it'll just get rammed into whatever crevice it'll fit in. Space seems to be at a premium with the whyte. i did manage to manipulate the cover off but it did get a bit damaged in the process.

This was the final resting place for mine. Being able to pedal in eco at 18/19mph is a game changer as it brings it back in line with my old normal mtb.

Is it worth using some penetrating oil to help with releasing the crank arm from the drive shaft, just a thought I’d ask about it that’s all

The crank arms come off easily enough on this, i just wasn't sure how it was done and didn't have the correct tool.

The real issue is making sure they stay on after, those bolts need tightened up a lot.

It should not need it if the spindle was lightly greased when assembled. The assembly bolt thread should also be greased.

the only problem with that is that I will only find out if it was lightly greased when I try to remove my crank arms by which point it’s too late ?

I would just use the correct crank extractor and try it. You will know if it is really jammed by how much pressure you have to apply. I would avoid going straight to a penetrating oil in case it finds its way along the crank into the motor bearing interface.

Sound advice Mike, I will leave off with the plus gas in that case, thanks mate ?
