Was playing around with my Giant RideControl phone app, when I came across this page (attachment below).
Says my software version is 20180729000. So how do I know if that's the latest version?
And if it's not, has anyone upgraded to the latest version - and in what way is it different? Any bugs?

What about the hardware version, is that upgradable as well? I blurred it in case that's meant to be the serial number of the motor.

Go to your app store and check it yourself.

To be honest the app is pretty shitty, good for adjust your presets but that's about it

Mine updated 3 days ago, iOS 1.3.0 build 39

Look in your AppStore for updates , or at the bottom of your profile page on the app.

Ummm... I wasn’t meaning my iPhone OS, I was curious if the Giant/Yamaha software on the bike itself upgradable? I guess I may have misunderstood, but that’s what I assumed those numbers meant (20180729000).

My Trance E+1 is 2018122800 according to the app and was plugged in to the diagnostics at the lbs last week. The print out i got shows something completely different though.

I've yet to take mine in. My LBS said that I should bring my bike back in within 2 months so that they can run a full diagnostic to check for errors and if everything is fine. I wonder if they're the ones that have the authority to upgrade the firmware. I'll also ask them to confirm if my assist limit is 32kph or 25kph.

There is a manual that shows a firmware update page on the app, but nothing in the actual yet.
Here are my version numbers...
Same as mine. I guess Giant hasn't activated the firmware update feature from the phone apps yet.

I had one bike firmware update a couple of months after purchase last year on my 2019 Fathom E+2
Used the app to do it. Nothing since and it's been almost a year. I was considering asking LBS if there was anything newer...

What are people hoping for or expecting from a firmware update?
My 2019 Trance doesn’t seem to have any hang ups or quirks .... yet!

Force of habit... feels like every month my iPhone prompts me for an OS update, so I get FOMO for my eBike.

Oh, I dunno... hoping a new firmware update would allow me to customise the 5 power modes to go up in power instead of just down... or to be able to reconfigure the top (fifth) setting into an INTELLIGENT POWER mode that automatically scrolls from ECO through to TURBO depending on how hard you're pedalling... or a secret personal cheat CODE where Giant will take off the speed restriction completely - on my birthday...

Wishful thinking I know, but as the saying goes... Hope springs eternal.

My shimano bikes feel as though they got better at the last update. I was too hasty to get them both done, and didnt do a good comparison but I feel as though my shimano bikes recieved a bit more boost.

My giant is starting to feel a little flat in comparison... may or may not be improving software in the shimanos... may or may not be weaking hardware in the Giant.

I finally found free time to take my Trance e+ to my Giant dealer today for my first complimentary servicing. I opted out of the mechanical servicing (even though the first one is free), because I do my own maintenance checks and adjustments - and I didn't want them to fiddle with my OCD set-up. ;)

I did however wanted a full electrical diagnostic to see if everything is how it should be. My bike passed with flying colours. The Giant diagnostic procedure apparently automatically updates the firmware with NO option to decline, so my Trance is now on version 20190924000 (mine was previously 20180729000 same a what some of you guys have mentioned).

The only difference (improvement?) that I can tell, is in the 'walk-assist mode' - where previously I could just press the WALK side-button and it would go. Now it's a two button affair - press the WALK side-button first, but nothing will happen (except the LED lights starts flirting with you, haha). However within 3 seconds, if you press the large UP button - that is now what activates the walk-assist function. If you wait longer than 3 seconds, the UP button reverts back to its original function to scroll up on the power modes.

I guess it's just a safety feature to keep the walk-assist from being accidentally activated (although it's never happened to me). I'm pretty sure other eBikes already have this 2 button sequence for the walk-assist mode.

Interesting:unsure::unsure:

that does make good sense.

I thought the walk assist mode was a bit tricky to use being on the underside of the controller. I'

I wonder if the software can be updated via bluetooth?

Sorry I wasn't present to see if the update was done via bluetooth or if they had to plug it in.

It's obvious that the first four digits of the Giant firmware is the year - mine came stock with the 2018/// and now updated to 2019///

I wonder though... if there is an up and coming 2020/// firm update - that would/might/could reconfigure our older motors to have the same sustained power curve at higher cadences that the newer 2020 bikes have?

That would be nice but i suspect the 2 extra sensors play a part in this.

^ Based on that, the slope detection and accelerometer are the two new sensors that the 2019 motors don't have... I think that makes the 6th additional auto power support mode possible.

I guess, that's that - for the older models.

This week I did a firmware update that was listed via the Giant App on my 2020 Fathom E+ 3 29er (32km/h). All went well and now my software version is 20190802000 & hardware version is 20190100000, I'm not sure what the were before as I didn't make note before starting the update. The only change I've noticed is "walk mode". As above, before you just pushed the walk button to engage, now you push the walk button and the power level indicator LED's cycle thru and you need to push the power level increase button to engage walk mode while this is occurring. It took me a bit of playing to work this out.

It's a shame Giant doesn't have a method of communicating this to owners somewhere as I only realised the change when I needed it on a ride and on a very steep slope.

It appears the Ride Control app is only capable of installing SW 20190802000 (presumably release date 02/08/2019) at the moment and only SW 20190924000 (24/09/2019) has the hold to enable Auto feature. Hopefully the app will be updated soon.
