it was time for that to happen as current prices are very expensiv right now , Of course I understand that they have to raise prices as the demand for electric bicycles has been very large, since then the US Dollar has fallen by about 11% in one year, so you have to take that into account, the increase is approaching 30%

It at least shows E Bikes are on the radar in the UK as a means of achieving the carbon emissions targets and the UK Govt may also set their standards for aspects like max assisted speed etc. But there are other factors in the mix as well. When the transition period finishes at the end of this year we may or may no have a free trade deal with the EU, and we may or may not have a trade deal with the US so prices of goods from the US and Europe could change depending on tariffs. Depending on those outcomes prices could could vary significantly between brands.

Hmm any reduction in prices will always be a good thing! - I do question its impacts on sales of regular bikes though. It's likely regular bike prices could be impacted or should be impacted too. If an all singing all dancing ebike becomes much better value or available on a better deal... Will people still be prepared to pay £5k plus, for more premium regular bikes? Will manufacturers want to take that hit? Or frankly should we care?

If you created a coal-fired mtb, Sco Mo might give you some funding for it :D
Either party would :(; look at labour in Qld - they love coal even though it's being propped up by tax payer dollars! We're paying to destroy our atmosphere :(. I can see why you're happy :ROFLMAO: - Ardern makes scomo look like the retard he is.

My guess is it will be for the lower value commuter type bikes rather than emtbs. Probably have a price cap on the bike of £1000 to limit expensive toys being brought using it rather than the intended purpose.

Still, can but hope!

I haven't been in the hobby for all that long, but its already costing me a fortune...

There will no doubt be a cap but provided the system does not limit the purchase value it could provide a meaningful saving for emtbs.

I'm not happy, but I realise how fortunate I was to be born here - and to be a tall white guy. I don't get my bag searched every time I go into Kmart for instance. Ardern is a pro-capitalist politician who has some empathy. I'm not sure if she has realised yet that empathy and capitalism are at odds though, but soon enough the folks in the middle who are slowly becoming poorer and desperately don't want to be, will vote for something more right-wing to make themselves feel better. The rest of the world is doing that (and paying the price), so I expect it will happen here too because it's easier to blame individuals for system created problems than it is to learn about systemic and structural issues within the governing economic system. And as for coal being propped up by taxpayers, this is standard big business practice. If companies had to pay for the negative externalities they caused (polluting the environment, resource over use, etc), about 88% of global corporations wouldn't make a profit. There's a recent UN report on exactly that. The rich get socialism and the workers get capitalism. For some reason people are happy to openly claim that gummint subsidies are shit and shouldn't be given to poorer groups, but those same folks are fine with every bail out going straight to banks, corporations and shareholders.

Mixed feelings over this I'm all for a discount, but stock is a bigger factor. Already see value brands like Vitus/Decathon commonly out of stock (on all the popular bikes). Hopefully the bike brands will be on board (and stocked) before the government drops the bomb. But knowing Boris he'll blind side them yet have nothing beyond; A headline and him posing in a suit/shorts combo (aka a covid work from home mullet attire) on top of an eBike.

I'd also like to know more, before all those new bikes land. Along with will it stack with Cycle to work? In theory it could because cycle to work is a voucher privately aranged between you and work, while the 1/3 maybe applied to the purchase price by the retailor so. My man math says it should.. (HMRC often disagrees)

Anyone here happen to know or work in bike purchasing/stock have a few nuggets of info?

Thats a pretty damned low bar then as Ardern is a useless as tits on a bull.
That is a very cruel and cutting remark!!!!! The Tooth Fairy is very good at Headline Grabbing, smiling to the commoners, while she talks for ten minutes but not actually saying anything. Very soon we will be trading in our e-mtbs on wakas. ( Maori Canoe)
