Does it flatten out steeps as much as a gopro? Was thinking that more realistic terrain might be a benefit of the less wide angle lens

Here's my quick review. GoPro Hero 7 killer or just another clone...

The non action footage is, as you say very good, but the action footage has both focus loss every 5 to 6 seconds or it could be roller shutter effect...either way it is not good. Again as you say I suspect the fact that is does not use HEVC for 4k footage is possibly the root cause and it could in fact be a sd card limitation given that one of the best aspects of HEVC compared to h265 is the much smaller file it creates. Away from action footage it does show the better colour encoding of h264 compared to HEVC however. Maybe you could do another test but avoid using 4K ……..the Osmo might well work better. The stabilisation is as good as Hero 7......that also absorbs processing power however , and maybe more than it does in Hero 7, so another reason reason to step down the resolution. Using a 4:3 format will give the same width with a taller frame...it can be cropped to 16:9 in post whilst selecting the most informative part of the 4:3 frame. Good review Rob....Ill stick with the Hero 7!
