Chainring locknut removal. 2019 Trance E+

I'm not certain Gaint recommends this method but lacking any source for manuals... here is how I did it.

It's a LH thread so clockwise loosens it!

Removed crank and wrapped my cassette/chainring wrench around chainring.

With the special locknut socket and a crescent wrench, I was able to apply considerable torque to the joint, without stressing the rest of the driveline, as I have seen some others do by leaving the chain on and locking the brakes.

Worked like charm.

I just posted a thread about this topic as well. You should note the Park Tool no. for future reference & the socket required

The castle nut requires a specific torque (torque wrench required)

The chainring holder I used is a pro-tool PRTL0032 bought at LBS. A google search will yield many results.

The special locknut tool is a park tool bbt-18 bottom Bracket tool.

Park Tool BBT-18 Bottom Bracket Tool
Tighten to 45NM. It took much more than that to break it free. I cleaned and then greased everything before reassemble.

if any of you are doing this on a full plus 1/2/3 etc and you are changing
the 2 x chainring to one give me a reply ill give you the info
